Hey,

I found this really cool project here called PiBob, which is based upon Boblight:

[http://pibob.nadnerb.co.uk/index.html](http://pibob.nadnerb.co.uk/index.html)

Can anyone tell me if that will work with my favorite Media Player RasPlex as well?

Thanks guys!

This project looks really cool indeed.

To see if it would work from a software pov, it tried the first steps from the tutorial. However OpenElec doesn't support apt-get, so it is not possible to download the tools needed to compile boblight. OpenElec also doesn't support changes to the system for security and stability reasons, so I don't know how easy it will be to compile boblight on another system, copy to your rasplex instance and get it to work.

Edit: he is also using a custom build of XBMC with a modified OMXplayer to send signals to boblight...

This should be possible. Just search the OpenELEC forum and follow their instructions. It should work for RasPlex too.

Hey mates,

thanks for your replies.

I have no clue of openelec whatsoever but I shall try to compile the files in a week or so. I haven't bought any of the equipment yet though, but if the files work, so should the hardware output, right?

I used my openelec install with xbmc to download boblightd and copy it back to rasplex:

```
~/.xbmc/addons/service.multimedia.boblightd/
~/.xbmc/userdata/addon_data/service.multimedia.boblightd/
```

Changed the path from .xbmc to .plexht and also changed these new paths in the startup script:

~/.plexht/addons/service.multimedia.boblightd/bin/boblightd.start

Running boblightd.start seems to work fine, but since I have no lights yet, the only messages I got were about the missing usb device.

The real problem is however not the daemon, but the support from the player to feed the daemon with color data...

The boblight addon won't work for the Pi. The Pi uses an other video player (omxplayer) and it has no support for capturing colors by default.

You can use the pibob patch with Plex with a few minor changes and it can even work with OpenELEC (Rasplex is based on it) if you include the boblight libraries in the squashfs image and link the libraries with PlexHT when compiling.

If you can wait I'll publish my changes to Github in a few days since I'm working on it for myself too.

Sounds good!

Waiting is not an issue, since I'm still waiting for my WS2801 from China.

Bad news,

I got rasplex successfully compiled with libboblight and the pibob patch. But unfortunately when playing a video I can see PlexHT connect with boblightd but the TV only shows a black screen and the light don't work. You can hear the audio of the video and the osd does show when you bring it up. But no picture of the video.

I guess Rasplex differs more than I originally thought from XBMC Frodo.

I hope someone else jumps in and figures it out.

I don't think so. But it's possible to add this feature in future releases...

We just need someone who pulls the necessary patches from XBMC and integrates it into our PlexHT repo.

But don't expect this very soon - our development-ressources are currently very limited.

Feel free to contribute this yourself.

I’d love to see this integrated into the rasplex builds. I got my lightpack about 2 weeks ago and am currently using it with a Mac mini but a rPi would be much more convienant. If anyone gets this working and posts the steps, I will gladly shower you in all the internet glory I can find.

Hi,

I came across [http://www.keiang.de/Content-pid-32.html](http://www.keiang.de/Content-pid-32.html). This project looks better to me because I want to use ambilight for other purposes than only Plex. Should it be possible to use the Composite output AND the HDMI output together with RASPLEX:

HDMI: audio and video for TV (or receiver)

Composite: video for Ambilight

Is that only for self build or can we buy that thing? I did not find a shop on the site.

Hello all !

Actually you can use lightpack with Rasplex by installing Hyperion.

You can find tutorials on the Net. Follow a RasXBM or Openlec tutorial and this should work.
