Please consider adding Hardware Transcoding support to Linux. Intel/QSV is no longer the price/performance king, as recent Ryzen G-series processors have unlocked the ability to use on-die GPUs on Ryzen systems. Other media server platforms have implemented this capability, and the code is present upstream on Linux to enable AMD GPUs in native and Docker installations. Implementing this would allow even more price-conscious users to unlock the ability to hardware-transcode even just a couple streams at a time on a low budget.

There’s already a rather popular suggestion discussing to officially support AMD GPUs for hw-accelerated transcoding (putting aside it’ll already work for a number of them but isn’t officially tested/supported by Plex). I recommend you comment/vote in that thread in order to avoid cannibalizing votes from that existing thread.

> Right now the main way to run a plex server is with an Intel CPU that support Quicksync. This results in the best performance and especially price/performance ratio. It would be very nice if plex also supported AMD’s processors with built in graphics for transcoding. As an example, here is the performance capability of the Ryzen5 2400G processor: [image] That is about seven 1080p movies it could encode when used as a plex server cpu, or two 4k movies too. Quite a lot for a [little $170 processo…](https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113480 "little $170 processor")

Unless I’m missing some unique aspect about your suggestion, I’ll close this thread as a duplicate.

Nah feel free to merge them. I searched but that thread didn’t come up. That’s an older but identical request to mine that is active.
