An error occurred for ONE show (68 episodes) only - every other video works OK

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252
Player Version#: 4.34.4 (from Plex Web General)

Running Under Windows 10 2004 version.

I keep getting error; “Playback has stopped because connection to the Plex Media Server has been lost. Please ensure the server is available and retry.” or when I disable the use of the updated video player, the message changes to; “An error occurred while
attempting to play this video, please check you connection and try again”

This error appears when trying to stream to my Nvidia Shield or mobile phone. But works fine via https://app.plex.tv/

I only get this fault on one TV series. Nothing else! I have been watching this show for years, have a backlog so was watching more regularly lately. Anyway, well into season, it suddenly pops up this error - and all episodes going forward would not play, several seasons worth. There was one new episode available for the start of season 2020, I got this and it played without error. (go figure)

MediaInfo showed no difference in encodeing, audio etc.

Recently I think Plex, Shield and Windows 10 have all been updated - not sure of timing here.

I moved the show to a removeable disk, activated the Plex server in the Shield, could see the files on the disk, but same error when playing.

I have since removed that drive and stopped the plex server in the Shield.

I have also removed the complete show. Cleared the database and rebooted the plex server machine. (I neglected to mention that the DATA files are located on a synology NAS.)

Restored the files and after scan of library files, I successfully started randomly several of them. ONLY to have the same message appear the very next day!

Can I revert to an earlier plex server version, say PlexMediaServer-1.19.5.3112-b23ab3896-x86.exe?

I’m stumped, maybe I can’t see the wood, for the trees!

G.

They are all .mkv and play perfectly from the Plex Web App, VLC player etc. As I said in my post, if a do a fresh copy (having removed original folder and clearing database) they WORK! Sometime later they don’t.

I will try the re-encode with Handbrake, but there are 67 of them left. I watched one this evening after doing the refresh.

The MKV container might be damaged. Try remuxing a few of the episodes with MKVToolNix.

I have reset the network connections on this PC, as I was getting an 0x800704cf error from Windows ‘Shared Experiences’ - suggesting I was NOT connected to the Internet, whilst I was. This issue has now resolved.

Also have done some re-coding with handbrake. Will see what happens this evening.

Basically recoding 68 episodes with Handbrake appears to have solved the issue - whatever it was.

Thank you all for input and guidance.
