Server Version#:1.43.4.10903
Player Version#:2026.19.

I have a Android TV box from my IPTV provider. Android version is 9.

I can install Plex but app recognizes device as Mobile, so I have mobile interface. There is no way to switch to TV interface in the app. Old version had that. Is there somewhere where I can download Android TV only version of the app so I can side load it?

Take a look on [https://www.apkmirror.com](https://www.apkmirror.com). There are Android TV versions there. I think the last “Plex Clasic” version is 10.30.8.4222. If you sideload that one, remember to turn off auto-updates. I don’t know if you have a preference between the Old experience vs the New experience.

I can install the old app. That is not the issue nor is the updating situation.

I am curios on the new app and all the apks I find that are Android TV installs as mobile version. I reckon issue is with my tv box, but I wonder if there is an APK for new version only for android tv install.

Oh ok, I think I know what is going on. Plex has been working to unify their codebases for all the clients. I think they started with mobile apps, then rokus, apple, fire stick/tvs. The latest client upgrades are often referred to as the “New Experience” Just scroll through the forum posts and you’ll see plenty of people howling about the new layouts, lol

I’m not familiar with the Android side of things, but looks like they’ve changed the way they package the new app and it’s broken out into multiple packages? Here’s another request for it…

> Hi Plex team, Could you please make the latest Plex Android APK available for direct download again? I’m using Plex in mainland China, where Google Play is not available on many devices. This makes it difficult to install or update Plex through the Play Store. I know third-party websites sometimes host Plex APKs, but recent releases seem to be distributed as split APK bundles, which are inconvenient to install manually. It would be much easier if Plex provided an official standalone APK do…

The issue isn’t how the app is distributed in this user’s case, it’s that the Android app is a single app that contains the interface styles of both "mobile\* and “TV”. The OP is using a streaming device that does not have proper Android TV as the operating system. It’s using regular (mobile) Android and a custom launcher with a 10-foot interface.

In the old Plex app there was a preference specifically to switch the app to the TV interface. The TV interface would not respond to touch input and if you tried using it on a phone you’d get a prompt asking if you wanted to change back to the mobile interface iirc. Anyway, the OP needs a setting like that to tell Plex to use the TV interface because the app can tell they are using mobile Android.

You can side load the old version of the official Plex app (as suggested on the first reply to you), or you can install Plezy (you can also get the APK for it for free on the GitHub). Plezy has a switch to force TV mode on it, too.

I can always go back to old version. That is not the issue. My tv box is from my iptv provider and is heavily customized. There is no google services on it so I have to sideload everything.

I would like to test out new app but I can’t because it is installed as mobile.

I guess the new app determins device type by some parameters that my box is missing.

I might give plezy a try.
