Apple Player Update Beta Testing - Archive

Yep correct. So even on the newest betas Plex is still doing the fake Dolby Vision thing and not falling back to HDR10?

At least they have TrueHD direct play happening which is great. In my main theatre room I’m using Ugoos AM6B+ now and it is the only Plex player that does DV Profile 7 FEL with enhancement layer. Everything else is just fake DV when dealing with Profile 7.

Hopefully the Plex team fixes that so it ignores Dolby profile 7 and uses HDR10 fallback as Infuse does it. Would love to stop paying for Infuse as I have Apple TVs in other rooms of my home.

Any luck with the audio with yesterday’s release?

Is this being rolled out to the main test flight soon or is it worth filling the form out still?

Thanks for all the feedback so far, and the great detective work around the DV/HDR issue. Let’s consider that discussion “closed” for now unless new symptoms show up, as we’ve added all the data to our internal tracking system.

Regarding TrueHD, while we are currently experimenting with not transcoding it to FLAC, this is still an item on our list that requires more investigation before we can commit to a decision. Stay tuned, as we will definitely ask for feedback related to that when the time comes

In the meantime, I had a request for folks who previously failed to start playback at all. Is that still happening on this beta?

@jacobaxford we have no ETA on when the experimental player will be rolled out to the main beta builds, since those are always slated for public release a few weeks after being posted. If you’re having issues with stuttering on the current player and would like to enroll and provide feedback, feel free to sign up.

Hi,
I have noticed Auto Play will trigger even when the setting is disabled on the current 8.39

Thank you so much for this, it is definitely much better than the current public release and I could play most of the files (80%) on my server

Quick question: Will anything be improved wrt EAC3 support containing Atmos or is that not handled in this beta/release?

TrueHD this time around is working much better than the test last year, and having multichannel support when using AirPods Pro is definitely an improvement. Please don’t revert this. :innocent:

I’ll second a request EAC3 Atmos support  We’ll be about on par with Infuse at that point (assuming Trust_The_Process’s airplay to HomePod issue is resolved).

Thanks!

I don’t see any change in behavior with 8915…

The player is still insisting on using the plex.direct hostname instead of my custom server URL.

So if I continue to allow the plex.direct hostname to resolve (eg. add an A record override on my router or whitelist the domain and allow rebinding), the player works great! If I don’t, everything else works but playback fails.

(I have to test more but it seems like the transport bar stuff is working, yay!)

Update:

New bug– when watching a series, once an episode ends, I get kicked back out to the Plex UI while the next episode plays in the background (not visible at all, can hear the audio track)

Hi, I’m having the opposite with Auto Play, do you have it enabled in Plex settings? I have it disabled and it plays on with next Episode.

cheers

Yes, it is enabled. The next episode would play, but in the “background,” as it were.

But, now I can’t repro it, have to do some more digging.

Ok, I’ve got it off and it works. Something amiss

Folks - I’m not in a position where I can test this release - but thank you to all of your hard work for the community folks.

Out of interest, we have an issue where when playing back content on the normal release of the player, it will sometimes randomly stutter. Quitting back to the Plex menu and restarting the video immediately fixes this.

Is this likely to be resolved too? If not I’ll fire up a different post and try to provide some details

I am also experiencing where on autoplay, it will kick back out to plex Home Screen, but the next video will play in the background (audio only).

It seems to only happen after a few plays (probably about when the auto play would stop) and when the appleTV would then put up the screensaver then go to sleep.

this is not allowing the screensaver to kick in, keeping the static image (unless you happen to get media added into plex, in which those new items would show) until you stop and either turn it off or restart a video.

Having this same issue. I’ve reverted back to the previous build but it has auto-updated twice to the new build and I can tell it immediately.

After some additional testing this weekend, it looks like that while 8.39 (8915) enabled multichannel Spatial Audio with AirPods Pro on iOS, Spatial Audio is completed disabled on AppleTV 4K. Plex will output “Multichannel” audio on the AppleTV 4K, but the Spatial Audio controls are completely disabled. I’m unable to scroll down into that setting section and enable.

Has the external SRT subtitle display issue been fixed?

They appear broken when I attempt to watchin anything with external subtitles. I’m on 8.39, build 8915.

Hi everyone. I appreciate all the work everyone is doing to improve the app. It appears that you have resolved the stuttering issue. I’m currently on the latest production version 8.38.1 and it still has the stuttering issue. Can anyone provide an ETA on when a production version that includes the stuttering fix will be released to the app store?

Plex doesn’t really do eta’s.

The main thing is that it is being actively worked on. I really appreciate the devs efforts, especially since we had radio silence here for a long time.

I still have a problem with SRT subtitles not working and the HDR/DV pop up not always appearing on some files with the latest build.

Hi, can you explain your issue with srt subs, are these as sidecar subs or Multiplexed in mkv files?

As for Format Flags, on what model ATV? TV model? Match content enabled or off?

To explain, I have not witnessed these issues and would like to explore further into your observations.
