Apple TV app showing duplicate movie covers

apple-tv

#1

Everything looks good on my server (i.e. no duplicates of movies), running latest server version 1.11.0.4666 but apple tv app is showing duplicate covers of some movies. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no difference. Duplicate covers have instead of title, year underneath, have title then "1movies" under title. Clicking on the duplicate cover takes me to the detail screen with no metadata but play shuffle buttons that will play the movie (like the "original cover" which has metadata, related movies, etc). Looking server side everything looks good with no duplicates so not sure what to do?

Suggestions welcome!

Those are collections https://support.plex.tv/articles/201273953-collections/ Thought it should mimic showing or not like it does in Web app

I get the same thing. It appears the AppleTv app doesn't really honor what you have for the collections settings on your library. Quite annoyed with bug. Seems like others are complaining about collections as well.

Seeing something very similar.

@BigWheel should’nt a collection be more than 1 movie? Why is is showing a duplicate cover for a single movie? The app never showed this before.

it's a collection not a duplicate. a collection can have 1 movie in it. though i think there may be a future option to not show if only one (but don't quote me)

it should definitely follow the library setting. i will report

if y'all can confirm the exact version number of apple tv app and server you're using it would be appreciated

Edit your movie library -> advanced -> collections -> change to ‘hide items’. This make the Apple TV just show the one instance of each movie… However, if you have a collection containing just 1 movie it will show the collection and not the actual movie (until you go into the collection). I went through my collections via app.plex.tv and manually deleted each collection that only contained 1.

This feature is not very useful with only 1 movie in a collection. If I have many movies, it could be great but with just one it just adds duplicate entries and nothing useful. The sad fact is that often times sequels don't live up to the first installment in a collection so I don't want' "SuperBunnies 7" or whatever the people in accounting think will make money.

It could be more useful if it would provide a list of what's missing.

#9

just delete the collections you don't want

Same Exact problem as everyone on this thread. Since the update to the latest Plex server with the Collections feature, it seems like all of my Plex clients (Apple Tv, Android TV, mobile, etc) are seeing duplicates "1 movies" entry. The Server \ Web app is unaffected however.

are you using the local or hosted web app

My library shows the “collection” cover and the actual movie cover next to it, not nested within. This has never displayed like this in previous app versions.

Using the local web app to view server side library. Latest versions of atv app and server.

See 28 days later and 300 in my screenshot below.

Also oboggie is correct- this is showing on TvOS and iOS.

The devs are looking into this bug.

regardless of that i suggest turning off collection gathering from themoviedb, and in the web app switch to collection view and delete all the collections you don't want. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201273953-collections/

Selecting ‘hide items in collections’ should hide the individual movies so they can only be seen in the collections.

Also choosing the option to “disable” or “hide” seems to have no affect on the actual issue. Still shows duplicates even after a client side and server side update\reload of library.

Can you please use the hosted app which is the latest and try to toggle the setting again. I just want to rule that out.

Interesting I came across this thread looking up “duplicate”. I am having the same bug as mattfh not on Apple TV but on my iPad and Android phone.
Random movies appear twice, the correct version and one with a screwed up name and instead of year of release below “1 movies”.
This version has no metadata when you enter it other than the poster but playing it does play the correct movie.
These bugged duplicates don’t appear in my plex server. I’ve tried cleaning bundles, emptying trash and refreshing the library. On the device end I’ve tried restarting the app, the device and resetting the cache but the bugged duplicates remain.
They only appeared in the last few days.
