# .ass subtitles not loading

.ass subtitles aren’t loading whatsoever

i’ve done refresh metadata and local media assets are checked

The video files use a different dash / hyphen in their file names than your subtitle files.  
Make sure this is just a regular dash/minus character.

When in doubt, copy the whole file name from the video to the subtitle file (except the file name extension, of course).  
The file name of the subtitle must be identical to the file name of the videofile. Including upper/lower case.

(again, except of course the language code and the filename extension).

To add to Otto, here is an example for a movie. Movies and series follow the same naming requirement.

[chuck@lizum Lucy (2014).376]$ ll

drwxr-xr-x 2 chuck plex 4096 Aug 21 14:29 ./
drwxrwxrwx 275 chuck plex 16384 Aug 10 02:06 ../
-rw-r--r-- 1 chuck plex 3674 Nov 22 2014 Lucy (2014).eng.forced.srt
-rw-r--r-- 1 chuck plex 21009351103 May 27 2018 Lucy (2014).mkv
[chuck@lizum Lucy (2014).377]$
