I think you got that mixed up…  
Plex Media Player has been discontinued for several years now – [last update](https://forums.plex.tv/t/plex-media-player/120475/105) goes back to 2020.  
Plex HTPC was publicly [released in March 2021](https://forums.plex.tv/t/plex-htpc-for-mac-windows-and-linux/703783) as a successor for one aspect of the old client (big screen HTPC use case).
