Hello,

I am currently sharing my files with some of my family members and it would be great, if you could just make plex to take the avaialable versions when a video is playing, instead of making my server to transcode.

Kind regards

> My server keeps getting bogged down transcoding for no reason because clients have a low default setting for internet streaming. They are all capable of streaming original quality, and since I’ve been converting a lot of my files to x265, the transcoded 720p version ends up having a higher bitrate than the original does in 1080 or 4k. Please please please allow the server to choose to default the client bandwidth setting to original by default and save my poor server.

Reading and voting in that Feature Request - will give you some idea what you’re up against.

Someone will be along shortly to close your thread if it’s determined to be a duplicate.

There actually is an existing feature suggestion asking for what’s described in the OP.
I suggest you comment/vote in that existing thread to avoid distracting/dispersing the attention (=votes).

> [@\[Feature Request\] Allow clients to play only the optimized version if it exists](https://forums.plex.tv/t/feature-request-allow-clients-to-play-only-the-optimized-version-if-it-exists/667571):

> I would love one or both of the following options in PMS: If an optimized version of a movie exists, only provide that version to clients. OR If an optimized version of a movie exists, default to that version in clients. Either way, when a person goes to a movie in a client and hits Play, the optimized version will automatically play. Compare that to how it currently works: in the Roku client for instance, the user sees a Play button. If you don’t know about optimized versions, you’re just …

@JuiceWSA : the suggestion you’ve linked is relevant but from the OP’s perspective it’s just another workaround. It’s not what this suggestion is about.
As for closing duplicate threads… you make it sound like there’s some malicious intent about it.

Therefore… yes, indeed!.. closing this thread as a duplicate.
