I wouldn’t bank on it. This is an issue i’ve had for years. I’ve found that it’s typically any HDR or Dolby vision content that causes it. I can’t direct play on any device because they all exhibit this behavior. I’ve collected logs in debug mode and recreated it, but the logs show nothing.
Re-encoding the file will sometimes fix it, or replacing it with another encoded version generally “fixes” it. Plex seems not at all interested in fixing client issues for local media playback. Like I said, I’ve posted about this issue before and got no help. This is back in 22 ![]()
Really glad I paid for lifetime plex pass. Ultimately i’ve begun transitioning to jellyfin, which sucks, but plex is not focusing on fixing any bugs for local media. They only care about their streaming services.
