Server Version#: 1.4.x
This is a heads-up to anyone running Plex Media Server on a Mac OS machine. Checking for updates either from the drop-down menu or the Settings menu in the web client do not find an update past 1.4.x. You must manually update the server by re-downloading the server software from here.
Symptoms: PS4 client complains that you’re running too old of a version. The new dashboard feature doesn’t work. Otherwise, no other symptoms.
Yes very old versions can only be updated manually. (Yes 1.4 is very old)
The weird part: I’m quite good about using the “check for new version” option on a regular basis. I believe this wasn’t checking for updates correctly since it was released.
You can make your life a little easier – no need to keep clicking the “check for new version” button.
Simply open the related release announcements thread for Plex Media Server and flag it as Watching. This way you should get a notification from the forum whenever a new version is released.
