[BUG] PLEX for Apple TV/TOP SHELF NOT Working Right!

I need to clarify something here. When you talk about the top shelf are you talking about the home screen of the Apple TV? Or are you talking about the home screen of the Plex app?

I’m talking about the top shelf for the home screen of the Apple TV, however now that you mention it, the same issue also happens with the top shelf from within the Plex app itself as well. So it’s happening in both places (although that didn’t register with me until you just brought it up). When I think of the top shelf, I’m thinking about the home screen for the Apple TV itself. My Plex app icon for Apple TV is on the far right, of the top shelf (on the home screen).

Great, thanks for the clarification.

Let us know how it all works out after you have deleted and reinstalled the app.

P.S. In the time that it took you to futz so much with the Apple TV and post an update on the same problem, you could have deleted the Plex app and set it up again. There just are not that many Plex app setting to fiddle with after installing it.

I’ll do it tonight, I promise!

Just to verify, before reporting back. How long does a video have to play, for example, for it to show up in the top shelf/“continue to play” section? I think it’s a minute but I wanted to verify, I don’t have a lot of time tonight so I want to make sure before I do this tonight.

Thanks

Dude, just delete and reinstall the app. Then during your normal use, report back if the Top Shelf is working or not

To answer your question, however, I don’t actually know; if one minute doesn’t work three minutes surely should.

OK, I uninstalled Plex App for Apple TV, rebooted, redownloaded, rebooted, logged in and everything works. I then rebooted Apple TV just to make sure, and everything works!

Looks like Darcilicious was right!

I had it set to “Required”. That will result in the top shelf not working anymore because it seems to query the api via http. The app itself is working fine with “Required”.

Maybe that’s why Required is not the suggested setting.
I avoid remote access. So I can run with it on the default Preferred.

I think I’d invest the time figuring out a VPN solution with 2FA if I was going to open up a server on my LAN to the Internet. There are so many angry state actors and weirdos these days.
