Bug: Plex Player For Android and Nvidia Shield TV Not Playing Multi Part Movies

Not sure what happened but this used to work. I’ve been using Plex for years and muti part disc have always worked for me. The naming structure for my movies are correct and like I said, it used to work fine in all of my Plex players. Multi part movies only seem to work via a web browser now. However, when playing a Multi Part movie on my Nvidia Shield TV or Android phone, only the first part is played. When this used to work, the player would jump to the beginning of the next part once the first part was complete. It just hangs now and does nothing. When I exit and try to go back in to pick up where I left off, the player does nothing.

Again, this feature still works when viewing through a web browser. Something must have been broken after all of the Android player updates.

I’m having the same issue playing multiple files on Android. Worked fine for many years on both TV and Android-mobile. Stopped working on Android-mobile Nov-Dec 2019.

Was this issue fixed?

Think I kind of figured it out. I got it to work by going into the settings and disabling the “enable new player” feature.

I’m seeing the same thing here. Your fix worked. I’m attaching my log that shows me trying to play Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring. It starts at about 04-12 16:39:22.293. I don’t see anything abnormal except for this line that shows a couple times: [PostPlayHud] Not showing since video did not end naturally. logging.txt (1.1 MB)

I can’t seem to find this “enable new player” option in the settings of the Android app at all (using 7.31.0.16802). Could you tell me which sub-section that option is?

Same problem here and disabling the new player fixes it for me also.

Same here on latest shield. If I disable “New player” multi-part movies work. However with this disabled, on Live-TV I lose all the nice new features for the guide and other controls.
According to other posts, the “Old player” is going away soon, I hope the “New player” gets an update to correct the issue with multi-part movies.

Adding a comment here that “stacked” movies do not work on androidTV. They show that they’re stacked on the web interface, but do not continue playing.

I’m going to see later tonight if disabling the new player is still an option.

So yes, disabling “new player” on androidTV fixes multi part “stacked” movies, but has a lame side effect of freezing on the last frame of the movie and not going back to the UI.

It’s really a shame that these forums are essentially echo chambers and no one from plex has even commented on this thread in eight months.

Just in to say that I can reproduce this problem on my Shield TV as well.

This is definitely still a problem and readily reproducible on mobile Android and the Shield.

Still an issue, but even worse the ability to disable new player has disappeared.

@plex please fix or at least don’t disable old player.

I have a 3 part music concert (3 DVDs) and whilst it plays Part 1 followed by 2 it refuses to go to part 3 and just replays part 2 over and over.

This is on Nvidia SHIELD latest client and server. Seems to work on other clients.

This has been resolved in v8.16 of the Android app

The bug seems to be back it seems:
Server : latest version on Unraid : Version 4.57.4
Player: latest version on Shield TV pro : Version 8.19.026205

I have a movie split in two parts, files are both 4K HDR, correctly named:
Zack.Snyders.Justice.League.2021 - pt1.mkv
Zack.Snyders.Justice.League.2021 - pt2.mkv

No matter what I do, the plex client on the Shield Pro stops after the pt1. Oddly enough, when I look at the chapters, all the chapters are there, including those of pt2 and they keep adding up. Starting from chapter 15 is pt2, so I tried selecting that chapter but to no avail, it jumps back to the selection screen of the movie.
Letting the movie just play, same problem, just stops at the end of pt1 and goes back to the movie select screen.
It’s as if the Player can’t auto-play pt2 and I can’t manually select it as well.

I tried looking for the option ‘enable new Player’ but that option doesn’t seem to be available on the Shield TV Pro.

Additionally, when I open up my server in a web browser, it shows that movie as half played, meaning the server seems to know that the movie is only half way. So I guess the problem is on the client’s side?

Any help? Is it because of the HDR data?
