Bug report: "Refresh All Metadata" and refreshing multi-selected titles not updating poster art

Server Version#: 4.152.0

Plex recently “lost” a huge number of my custom poster files (replacing them with other art pulled from online metadata), which I created a separate thread for here and on Reddit. It’s been suggested that the Mac’s shoddy SMB implementation may be to blame for that. I’ve since switched to using the NFS protocol on my Mac, with my library on a Synology NAS in hopes of avoiding this happening again.

All of my poster art uses the standard folder.jpg naming convention, with the JPG within each movie’s folder.

However, I still now have to fix/restore several hundred poster files, refreshing the connection back to the folder.jpg file present in all my movie folders.

If I click the 3-dot menu on any individual title and choose “Refresh Metadata”, it will restore my custom poster art. I do (and always have had) the “Use local assets” preference enabled. However, it would be very time-consuming to manually fix several hundred missing posters one-at-a-time using this method.

But if I try to use the Library-wide “Refresh All Metadata” command, it just doesn’t work to correct this issue. I get a spinning progress indicator on all my titles as Plex scans through my library, but the progress icons never stop spinning, and never fix the poster art.

I’ve let the command run in its entirety, and even let it continue “processing” for hours after the scan is complete, but most of the spinning progress indicators never go away, and those that do don’t actually fix the posters. If I reload the page in the web browser, the progress indicators disappear, but the posters are not fixed.

In a library with almost 3,000 titles, I’ve also tried—as a test—just using the multi-select feature to select a few titles, and then choosing the “Refresh Metadata” command instead of the Library-wide Refresh All Metadata. Sometimes the very first title selected will get a fixed poster, but it never fixes any additional posters, regardless of whether I selected 3 titles or 50.

I’ve recorded a video demonstrating the bug I am experiencing:
