Hi,
I've recently tried using my Plex on Xbox 360, to some success. Originally I was running a standard BT HH4, but the wireless range on this wasn't going through a rather thick wall so I've upgraded to a new D-Link ac1900 router so it freed up a powerline ethernet adapter for my xbox 360 in the next room. The wireless is much better now, but with the ethernet adapter available I'd rather use this. TBH I haven't tried it using the new wireless as it's better but still not great.
The original wireless seemed pretty sketchy, which was understandable as the signal was very very poor. But it would at least attempt to play the media, however now I have switched to ethernet, I can see all my media fine, but as soon as I select anything the only options are "Mark as viewed" or "Rate" (IIRC, haven't got it on at moment).
From the homescreen I can attempt to resume played content, however clicking this waits around 30 seconds then times out to a "There was an error communicating with your Plex Media Server, please check, etc, etc..." message. So I assumed the connection was at fault, but I'm not sure.
Attempted fixes so far:
- Ensured had latest version of PMS (currently 0.9.11.7, also set the update mode to "Plex Pass")
- I read about enabling port forwarding/NAT for 32400, so I have tried this to no avail.
- Tried deleting the app, clearing cache and re-installing.
- Rebooted PMS PC
- Closed connections in PMS devices manager
Everything else is working fine on my HTPC Home Theatre app (also the same PC as PMS but files are on my NAS) and Android phone app on LAN and away from home. Just would be nice to be able to stream something in bedroom, as this app is available on the 360 I want to try and get it working. If this is unlikely, then I'll start looking down the FireTV or suchlike route and run the app on that.
Hopefully someone can point me where I'm going wrong or if there's a genuine issue somewhere.
