Hello, i want to migrate from DS1815+ on DSM6.2.4.25556 Update 5 to my new DS3622xs+ on DSM 7.2.2-72806
I copied my Plex Share from my old DSM6.2.4 diskstation to the DSM7.2.2 diskstation.
I only have one volume at the moment. So the Plex share is on the same volume. if i understand the FAQ correctly i only should install the PMS and it will migrate the databases in the PLEX share.
DO NOT FORGET to grant Full Control permissions to PlexMediaServer (system internal user) “Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files”.
When this is completed prior to installing DSM 7 -or- DSM 7.2.2 app, The installer will automatically start the upgrade – PROVIDED – there is no existing PlexMediaServer shared folder.
You cannot create the username. DSM must create it in order to be a “System Internal User”. Anything you create is a “Local User” (yes, they made it weird)
As you install the package, DSM creates the username.
I’ve written the installation script such that it will pause and allow you to ‘back out’ a step, mid install, enough to open Control Panel - Shared Folders and Filestation and apply the permissions to the entire contents of the Plex shared folder (this is what’s important)
In “Scenario 2” (Step 3) is where you notice
This page should appear. This is where you are mid-installation of the DSM 7 package. It’s detected the shared folder permissions are not correct for the Plex shared folder. Right here is where you can fix those permissions and then continue.
This is a really awkward / Pain-in-the-XXX procedure but it is the only one we could come up with given all of our privileges (root/admin) were removed in DSM 7. (Under DSM 6, I had ‘root’ and did all this work for you)
I first installed and uninstalled PMS to get the internaluser from PMS.
then i restored the PLEX share and some media from backup and modified the rights.
After installing the migration did not work because i didn’t check the “aplyToAll” checkbox.
I deleted the PlexMediaServer share uninstalled and installed PMS after modifying the rights of Plex share again.
Then the migration ended sucessfull and the appdata subdir in Plex was deleted. So i could delete the Plex-share.
Now im restoring my whole media from backup and will start Plex from the new Diskstation after modifying the port forwarding.
sometimes i do not have internet access.
I can not find a solution to get a local connection in the android apps on nvidia shield and my LG and Samsung smart tv.
Only access possible over webbrowser.
Will there be solution in the future for this problem.
It’s a pity that i can not see my media on my own network if there is no internet again.
That was my first itention as i bought the plexpass
Plex is written to be “always online” – HOWEVER – it does tolerate times when there is no internet. ( It keeps credentials cached and critical files local on the server ).
The only time you’ll get in trouble with no-internet is if you restart the server without internet. In this situation, Your PlexPass won’t be available.
Players restarted when there is no internet won’t pull from Plex.tv
–AND–
there is no authentication. ( a problem )
I discussed this recently with Engineering and was told they are working on a solution to this (there’s a lot of underpinnings to change )
