Can only play mp4s after having no problem before

For several months, Plex for Xbox One has worked perfectly for me, playing MP4s, AVIs, and MKVs served up from my Windows 8 machine.

Then one day, I started having problems with every file type except MP4s. They will play fine. But I get errors when I try to play AVIs or MKVs. I can watch them no problem via iOS or Windows or even remote play to Chrome on Windows.

Any thoughts?

I don’t know how to generate log files - will be happy to if someone can tell me how.

Do you still have issues if you disable Direct Play and Direct Stream in the app settings?

Settings on Xbox One? Where do I find app settings?

While in the app, press the “Menu” button on the controller (used to be Start on older ones). This will popup a window and then you go to “Settings”.

That seems to work. I guess I should just keep it as is?

@moussa.uk was asking if you’d try it with direct play and direct streaming disabled to see if it worked then. Would be helpful if you could try that and report back to let him know. :slight_smile: Can always change it back afterwards, but it might get it so stuff will play in the mean time.

Yes. It works now. My previous post was asking whether to leave it as such or if the fact that it’s now working proves there is some other issue.

@venuslight Could you please send us a sample file of the problematic media? We’d like to know why it doesn’t direct play but requires transcoding instead. There’s a guide on how to generate one here https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201035968-Generating-Sample-Files-from-Media

@moussa.uk I created a sample file and it played fine. Still having trouble with ALL other mkv and avi files.

Do you still want me to send the sample file that played?
