Well… I have 7 ‘Apps’ installed - and two of those are Plex, so yea… I’d agree with that statement.
My Roku App also Curb Stomps my FireTV App and leaves it bleeding in a dumpster before stealing it’s girlfriend - and car. <—and I think my 4k Stick has twice the horsepower of my Ultras. Don’t think it’s the Cake - must be the Bakers.
I just pulled the power cable on the Roku. I went into Plex, and of course, it worked. But after exiting Plex, and re-entering, I have the same issue. (Left side not highlighted)
It never hurts to try!
It looks like you’ll want to jump on that thread Volts linked earlier - set it for tracking maybe… sounds like this is impacting mostly Roku 3 devices (and some TVs but the TVs are usually a generation or version behind the dedicated boxes) and matches your experience. ljunkie being on it means it’ll get proper attention.
I’ve had a few other Roku 3 specific bugs (see above bug report being ignored) so I wouldn’t be surprised if Plex isn’t testing as thoroughly against them.
Edit: I wonder if some of the code for the new interface (see app.plex.tv) was “prepped” and it’s not playing nice on the Roku 3. There’s other evidence of Plex preloading code for future updates so that might fit with the bug here… just a supposition.
Yes, that’s what a factory reset is. Erases everything and puts the device back into a “new, out of the box” condition. Then add back the Plex app first and see how it goes. Add back other channels afterwards one at a time to see if maybe one of those is interfering and causing the device to misbehave.
Hello. Just did the Factory reset on my Roku. (had to re-pair remote and re-access Wi-fi)
I added back Plex, but it appears since Roku recognized my account, it auto-added back all my channels I previously had.
This appears to work. (left side now highlighted and available after exiting Plex and re-entering.)
One added benefit- When entering Plex, it now automatically displays all my “pinned” channels without me having to select my Plex server from the menu.
I’ll reverify this all works correctly over the next day, but thanks for the suggestion.
There is a setting, in your Roku Account to prevent that, but you can employ it if and when you start having problems again.
I don’t know how the Roku memory works overall, but the more you use with a thousand channels you won’t watch, means less for the Plex app to use… maybe.
The factory reset worked, but I do have several channels that I do not use. Are you saying the Roku 3 may work better if I deleted all channels not currently used? ( I generally only use 2 to 3 channels, at most.
This is a bug. We should have an update to fix the issue hitting the Preview channel soon. The official channel will take some time. Please see this post Plex Left Menu Requires Roku Restart - #21 by ljunkie, for a workaround.
@dlandon, you mentioned previously that Back wasn’t working for you. Just checking after that post.
@ljunkie, I was just now able to reproduce this. Back doesn’t fix it for me once it’s in this state.
Oh, wait! I do understand. Got it. Back wasn’t suggested as a fix when this happens, rather, that’s how to keep the problem from happening, for the time being.
→ Be sure to exit the More menu before leaving the Plex app, until the fix arrives.
To add to this - Pin the Libraries you prefer and avoid entering the More screen at all. This helps prevent the Roku screen saver from triggering this issue.
Volts, I had tried the “back” button, with no result, but since doing the Roku factory reset, I no longer need to use the “More…” button. After the reset, Plex now immediately displays all my “pinned” folders to the immediate left. (i.e. it now automatically sees my server w/o me having to select it.
All is good. ( and of course, per ljunkie, they are working on a fix for this)
We’ve published an update to the preview channel that should fix the issue. Please give that version a try and let us know. Thanks again for the reports and sorry for the troubles!
