Cannot Connect to Plex Media Server from outside on Port 110

Server Version#: 1.25.9.5721
Player Version#: (Plex for Windows) 1.43.4.2971-aa2133cc

Due to Firewall restrictions at the wifi of my hotel, I had to change the public port of my Plex Server to Port 110. In the Options of the PMS under remote access, everything ist working. “Fully available outside of your network.”

But the Plex for Windows App is not connecting from the Wifi of the hotel. The Android App of my tablet and of my phone are working flawless (in the same Wifi). Also the Kodi-App of my Laptop with the Plex AddOn is also working.
But still not the Plex for Windows App.
Is there an option in this App to manually configure the connection to the PMS or to allow Port 110 for connection?

Thanks in advance

I don’t see any settings for manual server addresses on the Plex for Windows app, but you can set this on the “Plex HTPC” app. So if you knew what you Internet IP was at home while you were at the hotel you can try entering that IP address and the port as 110.

Thanks for the hint. I tried it right away, but unfortunately it didn’t work either. In addition, the logs are unfortunately not very meaningful, even at the highest level. There is only “connection failed” but no reason.

After a bit of trying, I found a solution that suits me.

I couldn’t access to my PMS with Chrome and Firefox, too. But there was a reasonable error message here, the Plex Direct certificate does not match my domain. A Nextcloud, which is secured with HSTS, also runs on this domain. So quickly entered my Let’s Encrypt certificate in the PMS settings and restarted it. Since I can now access to my PMS via Chrome.

Plex for Windows and Plex HTPC still don’t work, but Chrome is fine for me and the Android apps are also still working.

Okay, Chrome has also problems using Plex on port 110. Usually, it says ‘ERR_UNSAFE_PORT’. But there is a fix for this problem, described here: https://thegeekpage.com/err-unsafe-port/
With " –explicitly-allowed-ports=110", Chrome runs flawless with my Plex setup.
May I should have mentioned this before…I tried this option before and forget it, until I tried it at another PC.

Maybe there is a similar workaround at the Plex App for Windows?

Try port 443 if it is not in use.

I changed my remote access port to 443, fired up the VPN on my PC, & launched Plex for Windows.

It streamed just fine. Plex Dashboard showed the connection as remote, with the IP address of the VPN provider.

Good idea,
unfortunately, I run a Nextcloud instance at home which uses port 80 and 443. So I cannot use these ports for Plex.
Moreover, the hotel blocks the IPs of famous VPN servers…
