Can't access some folders anymore - DSM7

I am having the exact same error message but with my synology nas.

nothing has changed but suddenly a whole folder does not seem to be able to load pictures and videos.

my movie folders seem to be fine, just the folders full of family pictures. all of the files are on the same nas though, and permissions are given, thumbnails load, but the files dont open when clicked on.

i cant even manually update the firmware on my dsm 7 nas anymore. says contact supplier, invalid format

Control Panel - Shared Folders - Permissions tab

ADD - System Internal User PlexMediaServer

Username “Plex” is no longer used:

Manually installed latest PMS in Synology DSM 7. After fixing share permission, all seems to work as before except that I cannot get PMS to find and use the Plex supplied metadata that (automaticically)populated my media library before. All devices can find and play music but artist, bio, and album art is blank. So far I am only using a single music library consisting entirely of flac files organized by album. Is there a checklist of settings that I need to use?

Thank you for your response. The music files are named and organized as Plex recommends. (No change from when they worked perfectly on DSM 6x) Also the local preferred was not the problem because it is only used if present. The solution is to match artist by artist. Is the a way to do bulk auto match?

Depending on how you put music files into place, or if permissions were individually manipulated later, permissions might not be uniform throughout the shared folder.

Did you perform this step after setting the main share permissions?

  1. Right-click the shared folder itself → Properties
  2. Permissions tab
  3. Verify PlexMediaServer is listed , minimally, with READ permission.
  4. Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files, box checked.
  5. Hit OK and apply those changes.
