Hi Plex,

I updated my plex server (VPS) on Ubuntu to the latest version. After that it became unavailable.

Trying to troubleshoot it I removed this specific server from my list of servers.

Now Plex is unable to find it. It is only finding my PLex Cloud and Plex Server running on my local network.

What can I do to make plex see my VPS server again?

Can anyone here help me?

Thanks.

You must `ssh` into the server and create a remote tunnel to it again, just as you did during initial setup.

Sometimes it can happen that the server needs assistance associating itself again after an upgrade. Server - Settings - General. Log it back into your account again and verify remote connectivity. Usually, it’s the remote connectivity which blinks. While it will eventually right itself, this is much quicker.

Thanks for replying it.

When I SSH’d into my VPS IP it asks for my PIN and then it starts to look for server on the plex web interface but there is only listed there my Nvidia Shield and Plex Cloud.

The weird thing is that if I disable my plex server running on my VPS it fails to load the page. Plex Knows it is there, but it isn’t being recognized as a server.

If I go to Server - Settings - General it is only showing the PLex Cloud server settings or the Nvidia Shield.

Trying to troubleshoot it before I posted here I removed the server running on this VPS from my Plex Account.

That’s the issue.

when you ssh’d to it, did you `ssh -L 8888:127.0.0.1:32400 ip.addr.of.vps` ? to put yourself directly on 127.0.0.1?

No. I’ve used a proxy script to reverse it. But there is a VPN Tunnel established. It is showing the IP address from my VPS. I will try this way you just told me to see if something changes. I will let you know.

I have tried this command you mentioned but nothing happens.

The only terminal I have available here is the one from my openwrt router. I have checked my ip address. It didn’t change.

I have also tried to access 127.0.0.1:32400 to no avail.

Respectfully, how did you manage to setup PMS initially?

Use that same procedure / technique again to get the graphical UI access.

I have used a proxy script that managed to create a VPS Tunnel on my iPad. After the latest update my VPS server became unavailable. I tried to fix it by removing it. And since that it never appeared again.

Using the same technique that created a VPN Tunnel on my Ipad doesn’t seem to work anymore. My VPS Plex server is not showing up on my plex web.

That’s the issue.

I rebooted all my network.

Established a VPN Tunnel using the same technique I have used the first time I setup my Ubuntu Server VPS.

Try to access the IP.address:32400/web

It asked for my PIN and redirected me to my Plex Cloud.

My VPS server isn’t being listed.

You have yourself doubly locked out…

This will be ‘fun’. (NOT)

Open the `ssh -L 8888:127.0.0.1:32400 ip.addr.of.vps` as before . Let it sit for a moment.

1. Sign your browser out of your [Plex.tv](http://Plex.tv) account and clear the tokens / browser cache (can’t be any residuals of [Plex.tv](http://Plex.tv) authentication)
2. go back to the ssh terminal window
3. `sudo sh` (get a `root` shell)
4. Stop PMS
5. cd “/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server”
6. `mv Preferences.xml Preferences.xml.old`
7. Start PMS
8. Return to the local browser and open `http://127.0.0.1:8888/web`
9. Now you’re connected to the server, and it’s greeting you as if a first-time setup.
10. Perform all those steps **EXCEPT** do not create new Library sections.
11. Your Libraries will be waiting for you when you get through and ‘Finish’ arriving at the Dashboard.
12. Settings - Server - General - Verify the server and your browser are signed in and in sync again. Sign them in if not.
13. Normal operation restored.

To answer your previous question. Plex doesn’t keep the previous version on the download site.

It’s always a good idea to keep a version or two for yourself.

Thank You, **ChuckPA**.

I was about to wipe my VPS Server to start anew.

That SOLVED my issue.

My VPS Server is up and running again.
