So like the title says , even after doing a pkg update, when I check the Plex pass version it’s still showing as version 1.1.0.2611. If I go on to FreshPorts.org and check it shows as version 1.1.2.2680 on there. Any time I do an upgrade, even if using the force option, it still will not update the version of Plex.
I’d be very appreciative of any help that can be given to point me in the direction to get the latest version available.
I checked the package repository (http://pkg.freebsd.org/) and it’s showing 1.1.0 there, so it looks like there’s a short delay between the port being created and the package being pushed to the repository. Based on the package being updated last on the 20th of August, I’m guessing it’s likely to be updated to 1.1.2 tomorrow.
If you don’t want to wait, switch to using the port instead.
Thank for the response @MacGriogair I haven’t dealt with installing software (on a FreeNAS system and started with the plugin, then switched to a separate standard jail) so was only going based on what FreshPorts was showing.
I’m OK waiting now that I know the package repository wasn’t updated yet. I was thinking about trying the port but didn’t know if it was as simple as just using the port or if I’d have to do some conversion.
You basically have to manually update it. The issue is that they basically shutdown the ability to update/install programs after they sunset a version of the OS. My FreeNAS is based on FreeBSD 9.3 I believe and that is no longer supported so I can’t update via the “normal” method. I have updated manually a few times based on directions I found on the forums, but there is a risk involved.
I’m attempting to move to a vanilla Linux server but I’m having some hardware issues and time issues.
Ok - I really appreciate your taking the time to respond. Clearly the issue still exists - I see that the “pkg+http://pkg.FreeBSD.org/${ABI}/latest” site has a close-but-not-very-latest version available for download - and I’m on the latest FreeNAS, so it isn’t limited to 9.3.
No problem. You can try asking on the FreeNAS forums, though, my personal opinion, I feel like they can be a little hostile over there sometimes. They may be able to give you more help on updating, though they could very well tell you to come back here to get help. To circumvent that, you might want to try creating a new thread here and tagging it FreeNAS and see if anybody else here can give you advice. I’m not very familiar with the underlying OS (FreeBSD) or even Linux, which is part of the reason for my going to a Linux server on my upgrade.
Thanks - I’ve been contemplating of dumping the FreeNAS jails and moving some of these functions into an actual VM. This was the kick in the bahookie I needed. My FreeBSD jail is dead. Long live my Ubuntu VM! At least the setup is pretty simple…
