Can't get Plex to work with my account on my new computer (repost)

I accidentally posted this same question in the regular forum twice, but I can’t figure out how to delete a post. I have read and attempted the instructions in other posts related to moving an account and switching an account, but those instructions do not seem to match my situation.

I bought a new computer and I want to set up that new computer as my server and wipe the hard drive on my old computer. On my old computer I signed out and exited Plex. I copied my videos to my new computer and installed PMS thinking I would be able to start working with all of the videos I had just copied to it, but all I see is “Looking for servers …”. I honestly don’t care about my preferences and set-up, I just want to be able to start working with the files on my new computer instead of having Plex keep looking for my old computer. I thought this would be as easy as installing Plex on my new computer but I’ve been working at this for hours, and I’m very frustrated with Plex.

Essentially, I just want to have Plex recognize the new computer as my server and stop looking to my old computer as the server. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I can take care of your other posts or move them around. What are your wishes?

Please copy/paste the link of the thread you’re referencing and then tell me what you’d like done.

Regarding your new computer,

  1. What OS are you using? Windows?
  2. If windows, did you copy registry settings and add them to this new computer?
  3. Did you remember to open http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in the browser first and run the setup-wizard?
  4. As you setup the new computer, you can give it a different Friendly name to make identification easy.
  5. Once setup is completed, you can delete the old one (Settings - Devices) by name and rename the new to have the same name if you like

See where is says “Looking for Servers”. Wait for it to error out and then click on it to see your new server. Click on the new server and you are good to go.
