When using the Chrome Plex App (from home) how can get it to connect directly to the local Plex server instead of using the external IP address (see attached)?
I’ve not used the chrome app before but I just installed it to see how it behaves - in my settings it shows 2 IPs just like your screen shot, but I’m wondering what makes you think it’s connecting via the public IP? Where do you go to see which it is currently using?
Disable ‘secure connections’ under Settings - Server - Network
Does this change the behaviour of the Chrome app?
If so, you have a problem with ‘DNS rebinding’ protection.

@OttoKerner
Yes, disabling the secure connection on the setting did allow the connection to go directly to the local(private) IP address. (Thanks!!!)
@jj0076
I used the window resource monitor to see where the Chrome App was getting it’s data.
The only problem now is that my remote connections are unsecured. What I really need is to know how to force the Chrome App to use the unsecure connection (eg http://app.plex.tv/web?secure=0 )
Settings - Web - General - Allow Fallback to Insecure Connections = ‘On same network as server’
then set ‘Secure Connections’ to ‘Preferred’
Again server and browser restart.
Is it different now?
You might have to take a second look at the settings of your router - as recomended above.
If your router has no user-changeable preferences regarding DNS rebinding, consider swapping the router or get a 3rd party firmware for it (dd-wrt, tomato etc.)
@OttoKerner
Set Allow Fallback to Insecure Connections = ‘On same network as server’ (it was set to 'Never)
Reset the Secure Connections back to Preferred
Chrome App is using local(private) IP
Thanks again for all the help!!!
