# Connectivity to raspberry pi server

I have a small environment without internet connectivity. I’m using a raspberry pi with a berryboot drive for the server, a rasplex client, and a dlink router to connect them. On the dlink configuration I can see both devices, and there ip addresses.
I used the settings option in the rasplex for the manual server connection and gave it the IP address assigned by the dlink device to the raspberry pi plex server.
I can bring up the server interface and see the media.
Problem: The rasplex has been sitting in search mode for an hour now, and nothing is showing up. Is there anyway to get the two boxes to talk with each other?

Ok I wired the boxes to the hub and did some more fiddling. Now I can see the content, and I’m getting theme music.
However, everything I try to play (shows or music) ends with an error dialog pop up saying
Error creating the Play Queue
The server was unable to create the Play Queue.
I was able to watch content from this server in my home environment, though.

What version of PMS are you using?

BTW, Pi Server to Pi Client was so slow I’ve decided to try a different alternative. My wife is only looking something that will play music anyway.

You are probably looking more for a straight Kodi environment instead. I know some people favor these Pi-to-Pi Plex environments, but I really only see a Pi server being useful if it’s setup to serve to other devices without attempting transcoding. Using pre-formatted media you could stream to say iPads and Android phones in a family RV.
I’d look into LibreElec (or an older more bulky but still active OpenElec), which is the Kodi (XMBC) base for the OpenPHT/Rasplex project anyway. It will support local, non server-to-client based playback (cause if you only have one client, you don’t need a server 🙂 ). You really only need a USB Harddrive and a single Pi at that point. Though, you’d probably want to connect it to internet initially to load up all the metadata so you can have pretty posters and album covers.
