Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9
Player Version#: Version 4.34.4 (shiled, Windows PMP, Web browser, etc)

For the past few months users of my server have said it’s un-useable due to constant transcoding errors. Lately, I’ve been having them several times a day on my local network as well. I currently can’t watch a 20 minute show without it erroring out 5-6 times during playback. Also, if I leave the tab open for [http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html](http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html) it eventually becomes a completely black screen and I need to double click the plex icon in my task bar to regain access.

I’m attaching my logs and have tried every setting I can think of in the transcoder section.

Can anyone help me please? Plex used to work for years, but is completely broken now. I’m not sure where to look in the logs…

There are many FFMPEG / CUDA out of memory errors. Also, Plex is not always recognizing the GPU. See log entries below.

Which NVIDIA card are you using?
Maybe re-installing the Nvidia drivers would help.

Also, I’m not sure if it is relevant to your transcoder problems, but Plex is constantly re-analyzing the same iCloud photos. It detects a rename, which kicks off an analysis.

For example, it reanalyzed IMG\_4158 three times between 12:12:51 and 12:26:19, a little over 13 minutes.

For all your pictures, there were 9018 renames, and corresponding analysis, during the same 13 minute time period.

I don’t use iCloud Photos or have photos in my Plex Server. But maybe your system is so busy analyzing photos it has trouble streaming/transcoding movies & shows?

Thanks for the response. I’ll try removing photos from Plex altogether. My video card is a GeForce GTX 1080 Ti and the driver version is 456.38 (latest).

How would I resolve the out FFMPEG / CUDA out of memory errors? I’ve reinstalled the drivers and they say in the geforce app that they’re the latest versions.

Should I just disable these options? Or is there a way for me to fix my video card so it works?

Leave hardware acceleration enabled.

It looks like you have an i7-7700K CPU. It is more than capable of transcoding multiple 1080p streams w/o hardware acceleration. However, hardware acceleration should work. Disabling it would be a workaround.

Let’s see what happens after you remove the photos from Plex.

Let’s try this:

- Once Plex has finished removing the photos, reboot your PC (since you re-installed the drivers).
- Wait 2 - 3 minutes for Plex to finish startup.
- Play a movie or TV show and force a video transcode.
- Let it run and see what happens.
- If the transcoder fails, then pull the log files.
- Even if it doesn’t fail, still pull the logs, to make sure Plex is using the 1080 Ti for transcoding.

Edit: FYI, the log entries in the earlier post are from `Plex Media Server.log` (wraps to .1 to .5) in the ZIP file.

If hardware acceleration is working correctly, you’ll see final decoder = nvdec and final encoder = nvenc in the entries with `TPU:`.

Ok, I rebooted and then tried playing a movie from my mobile device off of the wifi. It errored out about 15 minutes in, logs attached.[Plex Media Server Logs\_2020-09-25\_15-18-12.zip](https://forums.plex.tv/uploads/short-url/jwp2xDaiSSOpBZRFKAkdfEE0nuq.zip) (5.7 MB)

I tried playing the movie 300 and that one appears to have transcoded correctly, but I see this for The Dark Knight in the logs which indicates it directly played I believe.
