Converting media to ensure 4k playback

Hi,

Does anyone have a command that I can use to convert my media (multiple sources/formats) into a format that will play 4K on my Samsung TV ? I get tearing and loss of video with the formats that I have tried (MP4)

Thanks,

Pieter

don’t go there…
your TV / set-top box should be dealing with any required upscaling. if you manually upscale your library to meet a higher resolution / bitrate, you’ll only get that… larger files. Since your source is in a lower quality, there’s no magic to truly bring it to actual 4K quality.

however you might check your TV’s features and supported formats…usually mp4 containers and included streams/codecs should work well on any halfway recent TV hardware.

Hey Tom,

I have 4K content, it’s just it can’t be played via Plex (without the tearing etc) so no upscaling

Thanks,

Pieter

Plex only offers this tidbit:

Here’s the 4K Plex Forum:

If you can put that together and find out what Direct Plays on your unit - there’s a Handbrake Guide in my signature that’ll show you where the buttons are - none of which is ‘The Easy Button’. Learning to encode takes time and lots of practice (trial and error). The sooner you get started the sooner you’ll know enough to create material Plex can deal with.
