Daily restart of Plex process on QNAP TS-877

Plex Server Version#: 1.23.6.4881
QNAP TS-877
Firmware:
4.5.4.1741

Logs attached.

Have to stop and start Plex daily in QNAP AppCenter as clients cannot connect. Started after last update. Not sure what is causing Plex to become unresponsive. A simple stop and start of the process fixes connectivity. Local and remote clients cannot connect and stream appropriately.

I just noticed an update to 1.24.0.4897-411e7667f from August 2nd and have installed/upgraded. Oddly enough, Plex on the Web UI did not state an upgrade was available. Hoping this fixes my stability issues. If anyone knows of anything else or sees something in my log files, I’d appreciate it.

Again today. Restart. Attaching an image of what I see before I have to login to my QNAP and then STOP and START Plex once again.

I’m seeing others report issues where PMS will crash QTS.

In a proper OS, an application cannot crash (hard reboot) the OS.

For you, I suggest, just as I did as I did for others, back down to 4.5.3. There appears to be something not quite right with this version.

The QNAP is completely fine as I can still login and other apps and systems are running fine. It’s only Plex that becomes unresponsive on serving clients. I’d be weary of downgrading my QNAP firmware as there are several security patches that have been applied that prevent relay attacks from the QNAP.

I will continue to monitor and if Plex is continuing to need daily restarts, I will downgrade to 4.5.3 and monitor.

Thanks ChuckPa. Appreciate your time and efforts!

I’m having the same issue. Is there a way to put in nightly Plex restart into cron? So i don’t have to manully restart until this is adressed.

The latest version of Plex fixed it for me:

ITEMS FIXED:

  • (Debian) Improve Intel CPU model parsing during installation for hardware transcoding detection and user messaging
  • (Hubs) Related hubs would only show 6 items if they had a custom order (#13001)
  • (Library) The server could become unresponsive if certain HTTP requests were made simultaneously (#12844)
  • (Network) The server could get stuck in a state where it thinks there is no internet connectivity (#12635)

I’m convinced the Library or Network fix did the trick.

Still not fixed here. Getting crashes on 1.24.2.

@wingcomm

Do you still have the logs? (they’ve not fallen off the end of the buffer)

If so , I’d very much like to see them (the ZIP)

@ChuckPa I rebooted the whole system to get it back up earlier. I can check. Do you just need the Plex Media Server Log(s)?

When it comes back up, Grab the ZIP and attach it.

I have no idea where I’ll need to look. I might end up digging into scanners or agents… it’s anyone’s guess.

I have the same issue were I have to stop and start Plex in QNAP AppCenter as clients cannot connect. For me it started in July. And with me as well a simple stop and start of the process fixes connectivity. Local and remote clients cannot connect and stream appropriately. The webpage on a desktop doesn’t work either until the program is stop/start. I have a Qnap TS-4453Be (4.5.4.1787) and I am on Plex version Version 1.24.3.5033Logs.zip (7.2 MB)

Just crashed again on me. I’ll get the logs zipped and PM them to you @ChuckPa .

Same issue after installing qts 4.5.4.1787 on TVS-473e. I tried the last three plex versions for qnap 1.24.3 5033, …4931, …4930. 1.24.1 4931 was stable with qts 1741. I think there has something changed in qts for plex. Hope qnap or plex can fix it.

Update from my experience: pms will unreachable after using plexamp.

@ChuckPa I’m afraid that since I cannot PM you I cannot provide the logs. Not comfortable posting them in the forum.

If this helps, the website says “ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED” and a client like the TV has no connection to the local Plex server so I don’t see my library.

@wingcomm

Check your PM

Connection Refused means the port isn’t open – aka-- process not running.

I need to see the startup attempts.

Everyone can do this when PMS won’t boot. (available since 1.15.4.994)

  1. Create PlexData share (exact case) anywhere you want
  2. Restart plex (or at least try)
  3. The scripts will find PlexData and make linkages in FileStation
  4. Open FileStation
  5. PlexData → Plex Media Server → right click Logs → Compress logs.zip
  6. Download and attach

@ChuckPa Thank you, I PMed my logs to you.
