> This exact problem is happening to me. Only when I navigate to [http://www.localhost.com:32400/web/](http://www.localhost.com:32400/web/) I get a 'Server Not Found' error. If I try to go to the website and log in there I'm in an endless loop where it tells me I haven't downloaded it yet. Any thoughts or assistance would be greatly appreciated!

There is no www before localhost

Just [http://localhost:32400/web](http://localhost:32400/web) on the server pc

If you open Task Manager and click on the Processes View, do you see Plex Media Server.exe process?

Did you launch Plex Media Server ? and does it start automatically on login? (System Tray Plex icon, option to auto start)

Even if I don't add the 'www' the same thing happens and it sends me to the address with 'www' and tells me the server is not found.

I was able to get it working in Chrome to a degree. I have managed to add libraries and these seem to be working. But now when I go to get apps it tells me to get started I need to download the media server. Which I have already.

you did not answer my question about task manager process view

If you open command window (Start / run / cmd ) and type in

ping localhost

what do you get back

You can also try

127.0.0.1:32400/web

Does this load in any browser ?

Does the url change to include the word setup in it?

Also check **Control Panel / All Control Panel Items / Internet Options / Connections and LAN Settings** to see if there is a proxy setting

Is this widnows 7 or 8 or 8.1 or windows server xxxx ?

Yes plex is showing in the process view in task manager. But as I just said when I try to add apps the browser isn't acknowledging that the server has been downloaded. My Roku is also not acknowledging that I've already downloaded the server, so nothing is coming up on my roku at all.

When I ping local host this is the response:

Pinging Globtrotter [::1] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from ::1: time\<1ms

Reply from ::1: time\<1ms

Reply from ::1: time\<1ms

Ping statistics for ::1:

Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

Approximate round trip times in mili-seconds:

Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = )ms. Average = 0ms

I can open [http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html](http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html) (that's what it defaults to eventually) in firefox, but it tells me several times first that the connection was reset and I have to keep clicking 'try again' to get it to work. I still can't add apps from this address, it's still telling me to download the server.

It opens right away in Chrome as [http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html](http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html). But again when I try to add any apps it tells me to download the server.

There is no proxy server selected under LAN Settings.

I'm not sure if it's windows 8 or 8.1. It's one of those.

I do not understand what you are saying about "adding apps". One does not add apps to Plex Media Server but you add Library Sections (Libraries) i.e. Photos, Movies, TV Shows. Home Videos, Music. How does one add apps to the browser for Plex Media Server? Please explain. provide screenshots of what you are doing.

As for the roku. you should leave that aside and also any other mobile plex players until you have the basics working with Plex/Web (Media Manager) through **localhost:32400/web** or **127.0.0.1:32400/web** and the library is all setup

Did you mean Plex Home Theater ? when you said add apps?

If you can get **127.0.0.1:32400/web** to load, use it to set debug logging on the server, so click on

**Settings / Server / General / Show Advanced** and select Verbose Logging and Debug logging. Save the changes and restart Plex Media Server

Then wait 5 minutes and in browser go to 127.0.0.1:32400/web and try to access your media or add new libraries. If there are issues, get the [**Plex Media Server.log**](https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200250417-Plex-Media-Server-Log-Files) uploaded here using ' **More Reply Options**' and a screenshot as well

For the roku and other devices to access the server, you need to make sure the firewall on the PC where Plex Media Server is running to have in Advanced Settings an Inbound Rule for TCP Port 32400

I wonder if iPv6 has a bearing on the problem. You could try to disable ipv6 if all else fails.

Could you check if you have standard content for the hosts file

**C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts**

The standard is just to have an empty hosts file with just comments

> I can open [http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html](http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html) (that's what it defaults to eventually) in firefox, but it tells me several times first that the connection was reset and I have to keep clicking 'try again' to get it to work. Would like to see the Plex Media Server.log with debug logging when this happens. Can you actually stream any media in Plex/Web when you access the server through 127.0.0.1:32400/web ? Does it get reset part way through ? Or are you just referring to what you are seeing as messages in the Activity view when idle?

Need to understand what you mean. But suggest you do not expand the operation of the Plex Media Server until you get the basics working first

Thanks for the reply. Yes, just restarting the media server worked. I've been using Plex for a week now and this is the greatest system for media management and viewing. I have a DVD/BluRay collection in the 300 plus range and it was getting just so difficult to manage. I could never find the physical media I wanted to watch. My next task is to find a could program for converting all my media. Several years ago I used a product called DVDFAB, but after I shut down my XP machine about 6 months ago lost all that software. I'm sure things have changed over the years in DVD media conversion, so it looks like it's back to the drawing board. Any suggestions would help????

I believe Handbrake is the popular choice - from what I have seen quoted on forums. See this support page : [https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201358273-Converting-ISO-Video-TS-and-Other-Disk-Image-Formats](https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201358273-Converting-ISO-Video-TS-and-Other-Disk-Image-Formats) - This is not relevant to this specific topic for debugging setup failures. If you need to continue with this, I suggest you raise a new topic. Subjects discussed in a forum topic should be be related to the title of the forum topic !

I'm experiencing a similar problem.

Plex was installed - goes to "Media Manager" and page loads as "404 Not Found"

This is the case in Chrome/Firefox/IE

URL that loads is [http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html](http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html)

No proxy, pinghost comes back as

Lets reset **WebClient.bundle**

Suggest you follow the instructions here : [Resetting System and Framework Bundles](https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201119258-Resetting-System-and-Framework-bundles) but also include **WebClient.bundle** so 3 bundles to reset and see what happens

Wait 10 minutes after the restart following the deletions before trying to load Media Manager. Hopefully the fact that the ping response came on iPv6 rather than ipv4 is not ann issue

The path doesn't exist...I do not believe the "Plex Media Server" folder has been created?

> The path doesn't exist...I do not believe the "Plex Media Server" folder has been created?

So this is a new installation of Plex Media Server.

Lets check few things:

- Is there a Plex system tray icon ?

- is the option to automatically start on login ticked when you right click on this Plex system tray icon?

- Is Plex Media Server.exe showing in Windows Task Manager Processes view?

- When you load a browser and enter these url's what comes back and what do the url's change to?

    localhost:32400/web

   127.0.0.1:32400/web

   local-ip-of-plex media server pc:32400/web

(you can find the local-ip through ipconfig)

- Does this folder exist?

c:\users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server

(note that AppData is a hidden folder and would need you to change settings in **Control Panel/All Control Panel Items / Folder Options / View** to show hidden folders and files)

xxxxx is the windows account the Plex Media Server is launched in

- Any log files in

c:\users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Logs

- Check the downloaded file used for installing Plex Media Server (the one obtained from plex.tv/downloads)

Right Click on it and confirm that File Properties does show presence of a Digital Signatures tab with entry for Plex Inc

- Check the registry using RegEdit to see what keys have been created in this registry area:

**HKEY\_CURRENT\_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server**

No logs?? But.... most of such issues are resolved by following the steps on this support page and a reboot ./ restart

When I am signed into Plex it says - You have sucessfully singed your server in to Plex but were were unable to reach it from outside your network.

There are 3 separate and distincts connection types here:

1. Direct connection via localhost:32400/web or 127.0.0.1:32400/web and that works

2. Access from other computers on the same network and this does not work

3. Connection to plex.tv via an open port in the router and this does not work. This would require a unPnP port to be configured by Plex Media Server or a manually specified port and Port Forward

There are numerous forum topics on these types of issues. What would, be common for 2 and 3 is the need for a firewall Inbound Rule for tcp port 32400 to be created allowing the port for all network profiles (home / work / public). You say firewall is off - what about anti virus / sometimes this blocks access. Is the connection from the other PCs via wired / wifi ? Is the network mix? Hi all,

I'm having troubles completing setup of Plex. I've looked thru this forum and can't find this exact problem.

Install of Plex completes and once i click Launch it will open a new window in IE to complete setup and it will not load a page....

[http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/setup.html?machineIdentifier=a802e88d20522b7c14d3e48122101bd141319bd1](http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/setup.html?machineIdentifier=a802e88d20522b7c14d3e48122101bd141319bd1)is in the address bar?

running windows 8.1

Any ideas?

Cheers

It could be some security setting in the browser. eg Enhanced Protected Mode. There have been cases where setup gets stuck. Other thing to try is to change the Default Browser and rerun setup. Again ensure there are no added security related settings / extensions.

Also check that you do not have proxy that may be interfering with access to 127.0.0.1

Actually for windows 8 media manager access was changed by the plex devs to go to localhost instead of 127.0.0.1 because in one of microsoft's updates there was a security change that made 127.0.0.1 untrusted. I am surprised the setup is using 127.0.0.1 rather than localhost

You could as an experiment change the url you get stuck on to replace 127.0.0.1 with localhost

hi - thanks for the reply

i've tried running the setup with both IE and Chrome as the default browser and still get stuck on the same page.

Just tried changing 127 to localhost with no success. also tried changing my security settings and turning off my firewall to no avail.

it seems there is a setting that is blocking the setup??

where would i find a proxy that might be interfering?

thanks agian

If there is a proxy it would show in control panel / internet options / connection tab

Is it writing to the plex media server.log ? Upload the log file ( Attach using ‘more reply options’ button

What security software do you have ?
