I can try later today. Only one laptop with me. I have a Surface that was working fine.
I would be surprised that the download button didn’t show because of McAfee. I could see it showing but not working with an error.

I tried on this laptop w/out McAfee and same issue. I’ll try another machine later.
I think there is a misunderstanding here. From regular Plex Web, that button is for Sync. From there you can specify which device you want to sync to. For the new Plex for Windows app, it uses a slightly different feature called download. This is different from Sync, so when you use regular Plex Web, Plex for Windows does not appear as a sync target. You need to use the Plex for Windows app itself to initiate the download, you cannot do this for Plex Web.
Your friend has an extremely old server. The download feature for the Plex for Windows app requires the server being downloaded from be at least 1.16.3
also if you have a narrow screen the option will be in the menu

You have alot more options in the window than I have. Are you using the full media server?
Your friend has an old server. That is your issue. Ask your friend to update his server if he can.
Didn’t work on the other windows 10 machine. My surfacebook has the old app which allows Sync and works fine still.
I’ll talk him into upgrading, thanks.
What is the difference between sync and download? I have the download option in my context and media window but sync is no longer available. Latest server download and newly installed windows player for windows 10 x64.
It looks like you need the newer version of plex server so that windows can download from that server. If the server is older it won’t work.
I am not sure about updating the server since it is working well and I’ve heard of some issues with newer updates.
In the Web browser app the admin of the server only can choose “Download File” it will download to your browsers default download location unless you right click on the text and choose “Save Link As” and choose a location. Only the server admin can do this.
In the Plex for Windows and Mac apps you have just “Download”. Which is the basically the same as Sync in the mobile apps. It downloads to an app directory and the app and server are able to track it for progress and such. You can choose to download playlists/a whole tv season a whole album, last 3 episodes and things like that. When offline they can be accessed from the “Downloads” source item at the bottom of your list of libraries on the left sidebar. This requires at least server version 1.16.3
Thx for the reply. The other thing I have noticed is that the web player has a sync selection in the context menu but the machine I started the web player with is not an option for sync to download to.
