For some reason my dvr just stopped recording everything on February 2nd.
I’ve downloaded logs. You can find them in the next post below.
Live TV works.
February 2nd was around the time I turned off commercial cutting in the dvr settings. Could that have something to do with it? (More info below on this. Read the next two posts.)
I’m seeing some “failed to resolve subscription for show” and “container not available” for all the shows that were supposed to record. Anyone know what that means?
I went into the guide and hit record on a random show. Looks like it’s recording. It’s in the .grab folder. This recording finished and I went to see if it was in the Library folder. There is a folder that was created for the show, but no season folder and no files at all. It is not in the .grab folder anymore. It’s nowhere to be found. In plex, it shows that it recorded but says it’s unavailable. It can’t play it because it’s not there.
Logs I downloaded from the last two days:
Plex Media Server Logs_2019-02-17_09-20-40.zip (3.7 MB)
Plex Media Server Logs_2019-02-16_14-11-15.zip (3.6 MB)
Also running hdtune error checking on the drive. Quick scan passed. It’s half way through a full scan now with no errors yet.
Okay, some more info.
On February 2nd. I remember that day, now. I changed settings in both Plex DVR and MCEBuddy to not remove commercials. I had gone back and forth trying Plex transcoding and finally settled on MCEBuddy to handle converting to MP4, extracting subtitles. The commercial cutting was working okay but I felt like we were missing some of the intro on some episodes of our shows so I turned it off this day. I also noticed MCEBuddy wasn’t running so I turned it on and there were a bunch of episodes it needed to convert. My computer crashed this day and ever since then no recordings from plex! Maybe I need to run a repair on windows. Maybe reinstall plex server etc. I don’t know. Anyone have any ideas? Anything else I can check?
I remember trying to figure out why it crashed. I wasn’t in the room when it happened but I think it lost power. there was no crash dump file and no other errors in the event log. Seemed like a power blip. It has not crashed since. MCEBuddy plowed through all the episodes that needed converted. They’re all fine. Just plex is having a problem I believe. MCEBuddy was not running in the scenario above where I recorded some random show. It was off.
No errors on the drive.
Edited the TV shows library. Added a new folder on a completely different drive. Deleted the old folder from the library. Next two recordings reported destination not found and didn’t record. I had copied all of the contents of the library to the new folder. But didn’t copy the .grab folder. I thought it would get recreated. I copied it over and set some random show to record and success! It ended up in the library. We’ll see if my regular scheduled recordings start happening again.
Nope. Show was supposed to record tonight. It says destination does not exist. I guess I’ll try cancelling all my future recordings and adding them all back. What a pain.
Can anyone tell me which log files I should be looking at for all the DVR logs?
The ones called “Plex Media Server” are the ones you would look at normally for DVR entries. You probably should at least edit the existing recordings and specify the record location. I would almost suggest before editing to add the old location back to your library so Plex sees multiple storage locations. Then edit the recording and select the new storage location from the Location drop down list that appears when you have multiple storage locations assigned to a library.
Thank you. I still don’t know what went wrong. But, it seems to be working now. After a successful recording on the different drive, I ended up changing it back to the original drive location. I deleted all future recordings and added them all back. It wasn’t fun, but it’s working again. Wish I knew what went wrong. I’m usually very busy and don’t have time to be diagnosing stuff like this. Took two weeks for me to realize our shows weren’t recording. So when we went to watch some, we were caught off guard as they weren’t there! Makes me want to get tautulli going. Maybe it would have sent me some alerts. Good thing I still have a backup DVR, the old reliable Windows Media center.
