It would be nice if there was an easier way to add watch history to your profile from the discover and info screens.
For example, if I want to add a movie I watched in a theater I have to go through a pretty convoluted process of marking as played in discover, then go to my activity and edit the date (which doesn’t seem to be able to be done from the apps) to when I saw it. Same for if I watch a show from another source.
It would be nice to just have a log activity option in the menu for each piece of content, with the ability to adjust the date when you do so.
You should already be able to edit the date of the watched activity straight from the item, no matter from where you access it. I’ve however noticed that the Activities section might not immediately show when you mark it as watched.
For me, simply refreshing the page does the trick…
I suppose there’s no popup asking for when you watched an item when marking it as watched to avoid that extra step for most users (e.g. if their use case isn’t focused on documenting past activities).
I can’t figure out how to edit the date from iOS. From the web I can. It’s just kind of an odd UX. For example, I add a few movies I’ve seen in the past to my server. I mark them all as watched so they are not in my unwatched movie list. When I mark them as watched it adds them all to today’s activity. So it looks like I watched multiple movies right then.
So you are left with the choice of:
Just leave your activity showing a bunch of false watches.
Go into your activity and delete the activity logs. Which do still leave the movie marked as watched.
Go to a device that supports date editing and edit the dates to the real dates.
I’m not sure what the answer would be. Mark as watched could trigger a, “do you want to mark this as watched in your activity timeline” with a few options. I’d propose. No; Yes, with today’s date; Yes, edit date.
It’s not a huge deal, but if Plex wants to turn this into a more social network type feed like they seem to it needs a bit of UX work.
Another small thing I just ran into. I marked a movie as watched. Checked activity. It showed it as just being watched. I then put a rating on it. When I went back to the activity screen I didn’t get the combined card like https://support.plex.tv/articles/activity-feed/ shows I should expect. Instead my watched activity card was replaced with the rating card.
This makes me unable to edit the watch date. From what I can tell, the only way to edit the watch time is to delete the rating activity. It then reverted the item back to the watched card. Then to add the rating back to my feed I have to change the rating to trigger a rating save event.
