Server Version#: 1.43.0.10492 I got an email today: | **Action Required to Update Plex Media Server on Linux Systems** | | --- | | Dear Plex User, You are receiving this email because our records show you are running Plex Media Server on a Linux distribution that uses Redhat or Debian based package managers, this includes Ubuntu, Raspbian, Linux Mint, and other popular distros. If you’re running Plex Media Server in Docker or NAS Devices you can ignore this email. We have recently made changes to our build systems that will require you to update how your Plex Media Server is configured in order to continue receiving versions updates via your package manager. You can either execute a single line command that will complete the process automatically or follow the steps to complete the updates yourself. It would have been nice for Plex to actually state that Snap installs aren’t affected by this change. It might have saved the OP and others the trouble and worry. ---

I found it strange how they used a unique email address for this alert. At first I was concerned of a data breach leading to phishing attempts. Has anyone else felt a concern on this? ---

I presume this will be the same case for me. I am using the Docker version **linuxserver/plex** and figure I will just need to update the docker image once it is updated. ---

They explicitly mention in the e-mail that Docker/NAS users should disregard the e-mail. > If you’re running Plex Media Server in Docker or NAS Devices you can ignore this email. So, yes, you can just keep updating via Docker updates. ---

So is this a legit email? I use linux mint so would need to update but I want to verify that it is a legit email before clicking on the link. I also have not been able to find anything other then this post about the update in the forums anywhere. ---

Funny how the original post about the update became all about the gpg key v2 issue for which most linux users on a fedora/redhat (rpm) based OS are just SOL, they were smart enough to only target linux for the email (which was a weird and random thing to receive) yet while there’s still no solution for a wide user base on installing the latest version. The forum is gonna be inundated with posts about the email itself, then from linux users who were probably blissfully unaware they were no longer receiving updates suddenly coming to find they simply CAN’T install any updated version due to an esoteric cryptography issue on still vendor supported systems. ---

So will .deb packages still be available? Do I need to switch to using apt? ---

Yes they’ll still be available. No, you do not need to switch to using APT. The repos are just a “nice-to-have” feature. They are not new and were never a replacement for direct package installations. The e-mail which went out was just describing an update to the repos and how to set them up. ---

So I run my PMS in a Proxmox LXC, plexupdate script takes care of the updates. Am I needing to change anything? edit: to answer my own question, no, I didn’t change anything and I continue to automatically get the updates. ---
