Hi,
I have Plex Media Server running on a Synology NAS. I have a separate iTunes database running on a mac (M1 Mac mini running Ventura 13.4.1, if it matters) since I tend to download a large percentage of my music from Apple (still downloading AAC files instead of using Apple Music). I use Synology Drive to one-way sync my files to the NAS from the iTunes database automatically as soon as it’s downloaded, then have Plex Media Server scan library files once per day to keep the database up to date. Synology Drive is set to only upload files from Mac to NAS instead of doing a full sync to make sure my iTunes database stays intact. A bit convoluted, but it’s worked until recently.
At some point in the last 6 months, Synology Drive Client on the Mac ceased uploading without throwing any error messages. I was wondering why albums I had downloaded via iTunes weren’t showing up in Plexamp and finally figured it out. Seems to have been an issue with a new version of MacOS and Drive Client wasn’t compatible with it… had to manually install an updated version of client, and subsequently had to re-set-up the one way sync task. It then went through the entire sync and all seemed to be ok.
Unfortunately, now nearly every album in my library (probably importantly EXCEPT for albums I’ve downloaded after the sync issue) is showing up twice in my Plex database. I usually navigate by artist and select albums manually, and everything is doubled. The albums themselves look fine, each has the correct number of songs etc, and each artist is only in there once. Initially I thought it might have been just the plexamp install on my phone, so I cleared cache and storage, and even reinstalled the app from scratch, but still showing duplicates.
Then I checked on Plex Media Server itself, and the albums are duplicated there as well. Figuring that Synology Drive may have actually duplicated the files, I checked both my local iTunes database and the Plex Media Folder on the NAS, but everything is only in there once as well. Tried optimizing the Plex database, but no joy there either.
I’m assuming that somehow the Plex database is corrupted because of the sync duplication. Any thoughts on how I should proceed? Is nuking the Plex database and having it reload everything the only option? I’d prefer to exercise any other options first due to database size – nearly 100,000 tracks. I did search the forums and found a couple threads with vaguely similar issues, but none with real resolution.
Thanks in advance!
