# Experimental Binary Packages!

Hi!
I just got it working on 12.04.
I changed the line to
export LD\_PRELOAD="/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libbz2.so.1.0:/usr/lib/libfaad.so"
figuring that was just a newer version of the same file.
Unfortunately I don’t know what package that file is from as I just searched for a file containing “libbz2”.
I do have libbz2-dev installed though…

Last night we tried to get it running on Ubuntu 11.04 and nothing seemed to work. Last try was removing both LD\_ and PLEX\_HOME vars from the startup script and now everything plays!
One thing though; is vdpau already supported? \>720p lags.

Glad that you have managed to get this working on your 12.04... wish I could be that lucky! lol. Was yours an upgrade to 12.04 or a fresh install?
Mine is an upgrade from 11.10, and when I start PMC I get the following

I have checked and /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libbz2.so.1.0 does exist, and the libmysqlclient that I have installed is libmysqlclient.so.18, but I don't seem to be able to install 16 any more. I also have libbz2-dev installed as well.
If I can get my head round the instructions I may see if I can compile this for Ubuntu 12.04 and see what happens :P
I'd appreciate it if anyone else has any pointers of what I may be doing wrong. My Ubuntu is 64-bit, in case that makes a difference :)

Ive just tried the deb file for 32-bit Ubuntu 12.04 but it doesn’t appear to do anything (?). The icon appears in unity dashboard but when I click it, nothing happens. No process, at least as far as I can, tell loads up. Typing
```auto
pmc
```
or
```auto
plexmediacenter
```
in terminal gives a “No such command” message, though typing
```auto
pmc-stable
```
causes XBMC to load up instead.
I also tried to compile from source, and it appears to configure and make correctly but then when I use
```auto
sudo make install
```
it says
```auto
install: cannot stat `xbmc.bin': No such file or directory
make: *** [install-binaries] Error 1
```
if anyone could help, would be grateful

The binary package is putting the binary in /usr/local/bin and place two there. pmc and pmc-standalone
Can you from terminal try /usr/local/bin/pmc or /usr/local/pmc-standalone and see if you at least get it running by doing it by hand.

I just wanted to chime in and state that I am experiencing the same behavior with failed video playback after installing plexmediacenter-0.9.5.2\_i386.deb as well as compiling the source from git. Video playback is functional using XBMC and the Plex plug-in but not PMC… PMS works swimmingly serving both Android and Windows Plex clients.
Chat support was immensely helpful, but I am still one bug away from being an immensely happy plex user.
This being my first day using PMS/PMC, I don’t have much insight in digging deeper into the issue. I’m not even aware of what logging is available for PMC which would probably help 🙂
System environment is Ubuntu x86 12.04 on an IBM Thinpad T60-2007 (1.83 duo, ATI X1300(Gallium 0.4/RV515 driver)
In the meantime, I will try configuring to an external player, not ideal but the performance should be adequate as I’m local to the server.

On x86\_64 systems (I'm on Ubuntu 12.10 beta) then you need to pre-load the 64-bit versions instead:
```auto
export LD_PRELOAD="/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libbz2.so:/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfaad.so"
```
Works a treat. Everything playing nicely.

does the binary work under 13.04 raring x64?
i'm planning on moving from osx to ubuntu when the 13.04 beta is released and do want to still be able to use plex.
i'm thinking about getting plexpass, but i will hold off a while on that.

More or less the same here: no one is releasing usefull information on PHT for Linux. What is supported, what isn't? What about Plexelec?
If you want more PLex Pass members, be sure that they know what they can expect.

Answer: Yes it works, though there are some funny things that happen with GFX glitches. If I knew anything about programming I'd help fix. Anyway I'm using raring x64 for my HTPC now. It's adequate for use, but the glitchy graphics get annoying. That said it works beautifully with my server so far.

Admittedly, I didn't know what was happening either, so I tried, and it worked. I also purchased PlexPass and am disappointed there's no more information out there than what I already knew. Maybe somebody can help out? Thanks!

If you have plexpass the jump into the pht plexpass forums and ask your questions there.
