Good Morning.
I am having problems with the subtitles on my NAS Asustor AS1002T. I have two folders on the NAS, Movies and TV Series. Within the Tv Series folder there are subfolders for each series and for each Season. Within each season folder there are video files and for each, a corresponding subtitle file named as “series name - SxxEyy - episode.pt.srt”. The subtitles files are in UTF-8. In the Agents I’ve set up in every possible way, even putting LocalMediaAssets on top. But Plex does not find all the subtitles. It often only displays “Unknown - External SRT” but does not show on screen, other times it does not display anything. I’ve re-created the library several times and it still does not work. What to do? I’m very frustrated.
Make sure the file name of the video and the subtitle are a perfect match (except for the language suffix .pt
). You might need to re-scan the library afterwards for the subtitles to be recognized.
I’ve done this several times. And the names are correct.
Also make certain the Local Media Assets agent is enabled. It will not see external subtitles without it.
Lastly, make certain ‘plex’ can read the file.
Local Media Assets is enabled. How “make certain plex can read the file”?
Chuck refers to checking the file explorer on your NAS in order to make sure that Plex has read permissions for those files — on most NAS devices I’m aware of, Plex creates an own user for local file operations… that being said I haven’t yet had the chance to look more closely at an Asustor NAS.
The Plex Media Server did not create any users and I left the Plex folder with unrestricted read and write access. I also gave Plex total permission to handle the folders.
