Extreme Buffering after 10-20 Minutes of normal playback

i had to turn off the enhanced player to fix the issue with my appletv, which is something you shouldnt have to do.

What version is your server on?

Plex Server : Version 1.18.9.2578
Plex Media Player for MacOs : Version 1.6.5.1097-3bb9dc68
Plex Server Host : Windows 2019 v1809 (177763.1098)

I can confirm that.
Updated Plex Server to: 1.18.9.2578 AND the AppleTV App as well - Problems solved!

Thanks!!!

EDIT: Problem not solved!! See last post.

Problem not solved for me.
see screenshots with experimental player no data sent after start playback.
Workaround with the old player. Data sent as expected.
Server Version 1.19.1.2621
Apple TV App newest Version 04.04.2020

That’s the latest beta. What if you use the latest public release instead ?

It did not fix my issue either.

I need to revoke my first feedback. Don’t know why ā€œHotel Transilvaniaā€ was playing correctly during my last test. Today - streaming another movie - after exakt 4:21 Minutes bufferings starts :frowning:

This is my problem as well, from my posts back in February. I keep trying to update the thread in hopes of getting noticed by Plex devs, but no luck so far.

I downgraded to 1.18.9.2578.
Problem not solved.

Has there been any updates on this. I’m having the exact same problem.

I switched OS to Win10 Pro for Workstations.
Problem not really solved but gone for me.
It seems Plex Supporter has also no idea or not the will to solve the problem so i needed to solve it by myself.

Crappy, but I will spin up a Windows 2016 Server. Is there any other thread that this is being tracked in that you know of?

This thread seems to be tracking a very similar issue regarding the AppleTV client.

A plex dev has already commented on a potential cause, and a limited group of testers seem to have had success with a test patch.

Until the next AppleTV build gets pushed, either turn off the enhanced player, or roll back to the AppleTV 2.15 plex client if you can.

Hmmm. This may be a separate issue, as I’m using a test plex server running server 2016 and haven’t had a single issue. Even when turning off enhanced player, I still have issues when using my server 2019 plex server

Look here at my post
I listed any thread I found with similar issues

I think the issue in this thread is different to that one. This one seems like a network related error (client side, server side, OS side… don’t know yet). We’ll investigate.

Gotchta, thanks!
I haven’t had a chance to try your 15095 test build to narrow down the problem I’ve been seeing, but the network activity between my AppleTV 4 and Synology NAS looks exactly like this user posted above when the client intermittently starts dropping frames with the experimental player.

Don’t think that this is a network related issue, because

Server --> Win 10 @ iMacPro (Dualboot) --> OK
Server --> 2nd Win 10 Client --> OK
Server --> macOS @ iMacPro (Dualboot) --> NOK
Server --> tvOS @ ATV 4k --> NOK

The case, that streaming to the same hardware (iMacPro) got different results on different OS is a clear evidence that this is not a network or any other hardware issue.
And due to the amount of threads related to problems with ATV 4 (k) i’m pretty sure that this a plex software problem.

Sorry, with network I didn’t mean hardware issue specifically. It’s clearly a combination of Apple-based client and Win 2019 Server based Plex Media Server.

What I meant is it’s different from the thread @taclane mentioned, which was a problem rendering the video, and the problem in this thread is about downloading the video data into the client, which is ā€œnetwork relatedā€ but could be a bug in Windows, a bug in Plex Media Server, a bug in whatever Plex Client…

@Maddeen the macOS test was using Plex Desktop? That one uses the same video player we have on iOS/tvOS as the Enhanced Video player (mpv), so maybe it’s a bug there.

If you can reproduce the problem with the Plex Desktop client for macOS, there might be a few things to try changing the mpv configuration :thinking:
