While it use to work, when fast forwarding and rewinding the index files do not show up...there are just black pictures.
Can we get confirmation that this is a known bug? Another thread was made about this but it was not confirmed.

Yeah, this seems to have been broken when the first update was released.
Same here. It quit working after the update.
Sorry, should have replied sooner. I've not seen this in my own use, but we'll look into it - I've raised an issue internally to keep track.
Is this the case for all videos? Shared servers and your own? Presumably they appear in other clients?
Thanks for the reports.
It does not work for the vast majority of my videos (mkv, h264) on my own server, although I do not have the "Generate Media index files" option turn on (not sure whether that is required).
I however remember one video for which it worked. I do believe it was a MP4, but I need to double check when I get home.

Yes, that is required the little pictures you see are actually the media index files being displayed. So if you have disabled them then your server stopped generating them and has nothing to display.
Thanks, I will turn it on and report back.
I haven't turned it on myself as I don't know how much space I want to devote to the media index's. But if you can find one that was generated previously it would be a good way to test it out with out creating a bunch of new ones if they're not working.
At the very least we should do something about showing the black thumbnail if there really isn't any media index file (I know, it's a bad name!). Let me know how you get on.
I can tell you Dom that having 0 media index files I don't get the black thumbnail (Although I might start generating them, I always just assumed they didn't work on the Xbox One...Glad to be wrong on that one =D). So hopefully that helps you narrow it down a bit.
Agree with J_McKee, on videos that haven't yet generated indexes in my library I don't get the black thumbnail, for videos that do have indexes I get a black thumbnail displayed.
To note, if you look at the activity in plex web however, the indexes show as the movie plays just fine. So the indexes do appear to be generating properly.
Cheers guys. That's helpful!
I have index files turned on and they work with the Roku 3s but not with the xBox One.
Same with shared libraries.
You can tell if a file is indexed or not from xBox One due to the size of the box that when FF/RW. If it's tiny it has no index but is big if there is an index file.
Out of curiosity could it be expecting an HD bif file and only SD are available or vice versa?
Carlo
Just to confirm that I have turned the indexing on yesterday. It get the thumbnails in the activity page of the web app, but I get a dark box for the same videos when FF on the XBox one.
I'm getting no thumbnails at all on any of my 6 Rokus. All movies are indexed. Used to work fine.
I turned on indexing a day ago. On my Xbox One I am getting the thumbnails showing up as they were expected. Although I only tested two movies from a library I forced analyzing for.
Just get a blank box here as well. Though the indexes do show up in "now playing" just fine.

You're the only person I've heard say this works for (probably others but wasn't paying attention).
I wonder what is different for you then the rest of us? I just recently rebuilt my libs and did a fresh re-index. Didn't work before or after for me.

No idea, I actually had been avoiding it because I was using a FireTV which didn't support them and I just assumed that the Xbox One didn't either. This was because I didn't have any so when I would FF/RW nothing would show up which I now know was because I had no BIF's the client had no reason to draw the box. I just started creating the media index's so I've only made it through 4 or so libraries. I only tested it on two of my Bluray rips to show my wife how awesome it was. The only other info I have is that I am on server version 9.11.12. And I manually selected analyze from the libraries I have done so far. I have noticed that I can only have one transcoder running at a time for the analyze of the library, but other than that it has been running close to non-stop since yesterday and added at least 21G to my data folder.
That is the only reference in the file XML to the indexes:
This is the media info from Plex:

This is the Video Playing on the Xbox One. Had to make a picture just to make sure I wasn't going crazy myself:

I am trying to find one of the bif's so I can upload that for comparison. I'll edit the post when I am able to find it for the movie. Just trying to make sure I get one that I saw working so I don't accidentally get one that doesn't work in case it was just a fluke.
----edit
Trying to regenerate the BIF's. I was looking at my database to try and find the folder key and must have corrupted my database. After restoring to my most recent backup I've been working on regenerating BIF's, I can't tell if Plex is using the ones already generated and I had some missed BIF's in my library or if it is just having to regenerate them all. But as soon as I get back to my Blurary library I should be able to test again and see what happens.
I'd love to get a hold of one of your BIF files. Curious to see if it's SD or HD. Plus for kicks I'd like to try dropping it into my system replacing what I have already to see if your BIF works where mine didn't.
Of course some comparisons of attributes would get looked at. :)
Interesting to say the least.
