I’m creating optimized versions for some of my videos. In the optimization settings, I select “Custom” and a quality, e.g. “2 Mbps 720p”. Plex lets me specify a name for that custom quality. However, I don’t get the meaning of this. The custom name cannot be reused, which makes it pretty useless.

My wish is to have either one of the following options:

- Set a default quality for an optimization profile (e.g. “Optimized for Mobile”)
- Alternatively, offer a possibility to add new profiles that can be selected in the dropdown list

If that is already possible, please point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!

This limitation has also been discussed here:

> Hi Guys whenever you create an optimised version it will ask you what kind of optimized version(Mobile, TV, Quality, Custom) and where to put it (in Folder with Original Item, root folder of that Library) i always have to change these things manually, which is kinda annoying is there a way to change the default values? Thanks

It’s been four years since this was originally requested. In all honesty, how hard can this be? Just have the Optimization menu be read from an XML file at startup, and allow the end-user to edit that XML file.

Maybe this is already there, but nobody’s bothered to tell us where it is and how to use it.
