# Genre Tags Don't Update

The [Plex Dance](https://forums.plex.tv/t/the-plex-dance/197064) would delete my history and stuff though wouldn’t it? I don’t want to wipe all that data. Is there a reason the genres can’t be refreshed or is it just not implemented yet? I’d think a metadata scan should be able to read the genres in the tags and save the updates. Basically, the flow I’m thinking of would be like:

1. Scan Library Files/Refresh Metadata
2. New genres added to song listing
3. Wait for maintenance for clean up of genres that no longer have references
