# Hardware Acceleration, plex not using my GPU

Server Version#: 1.19.4.2935
Player Version#: 4.37.1
OS: Ubuntu 18.0.4LTS
GPU: R9 390
I have Hardware acceleration enabled and GPU installed with all drivers. My Ubuntu server running plex is a VM inside proxmox, I have GPU passthrough setup and working correctly. I can plug in a cable to the GPU and see VM.
I attached a second VGA device to the VM to use as my primary gpu for console and server access. The idea was so that it won’t use the actual GPU and allow plex to use it.
However when I play a video that starts transcoding, it continues to use my CPU to transcode. I’m not sure what I’m missing. Do I need to do further configurations in Ubuntu in order for plex to recognize I have an available GPU?
