# Has anyone explored changing the icon?

Hey,
I'm getting an Apple TV today so I can test out this great-looking Plex client. Not having owned an Apple TV before, I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to explore the ATV file system through your computer (like you can using for example iExplorer and similar apps, for iPhone/iPad). Since the ATV software is basically iOS, I was thinking maybe it would be possible to manually switch out the icon file for the Trailers app, so it looks more Plex-y (on iDevices you can do this by dropping in a new image file).
Has anyone explored this at all?

I assume this is a 3rd gen (latest) atv you have coming ? Not going to happen. The unit can not be jailbroken so you have no access to the filesystem.

I realize that there is no jailbreak for ATV3. However, on an iDevice, you can access the filesystem through USB even without the jailbreak. I was basically wondering if this would work on an ATV as well - not sure how similar they are. I have done some initial digging with proxying the ATV through charles and adding the Charles proxy certificate to allow Charles to see https from the ATV. Sadly all requests to itunes.apple.com (Where the ATV gets a list of home screen apps to show; eg Hulu) fail due to SSL handshake error. I was hoping to find a way to "inject" PlexConnect as a home icon with no need to hijack the trailers app.
From looking through the ATV Filesystem, the only home icons that are not present on the device at boot are hulu@720.png and movie-trailers-v2@720.png. This lead me to try and sniff where they come from :)

Oh, interesting - thanks for sharing! Didn't realize that the available icons were that dynamic. Guess it makes sense though given how new services launch in different markets etc. I'll see if I have time to do some digging this weekend.

Pulling the ethernet plug out shows you how much the home screen is like a browser, if anyone can figure out how to hijack that rather than the trailer application it would lead to some nice possibilities. :D
