# HDR Transcoding

Right now, if a user plays an HDR file on an HDR TV with Apple TV 4K (set up for HDR) and Plex has to transcode for any reason, the resulting image is SDR and it’s not tone mapped.
A) Is there a good reason why Plex can’t just transcode in HDR, so the result is a lower bandwidth, but a color accurate image?
B) If not, then is there a good reason why Plex doesn’t tone map the resulting image?

I believe that this is in the works with the new enhanced video player.
