# HEVC transcoding option not available

HEVC option is not showing in advanced transcoder settings.  
From what Ive read, this might be due to plex not knowing what GPU I have, since it only shows auto in the transcoder device.  
Im running PMS in a lxc container in proxmox on ubuntu ltsc 24.04

HEVC encoding is a hardware-only feature.

If you don’t have any hardware to transcode with, the feature will not be available.

Iknow, I have a nvidia p400, i have hardware transcoding with h264, just not h265 - which the p400 supports

Looking through the logs, there is no entry where PMS shows that it found and identified the GPU.

That said, I suggest you check the passthrough again
