HI/CC/SDH Subtitles naming convention

I know it’s been discussed multiple time but I would like to talk to Plex devs about it.

I’m the developer behind Bazarr, a subtitles search/downloading tool and I’m currently reworking the naming of Hearing-Impaired subtitles. I want to include a tag in filename to make it easier to recognize those subtitles.

Filebot, Kodi and Emby seems to recognize .en.hi.srt pretty well and tag it accordingly in the UI but Plex isn’t.

Am I missing something? I would prefer to reach an agreement before going further to prevent users from having to do a manual retrofit afterwards.

Thanks!

We don’t currently have support for this with external subtitles but I’m adding it to the list of improvements for the new movie (and future TV) agent.

@drzoidberg33 thanks for the fast answer!

Can we agree on a naming convention here? Are you willing to use all/some of these?

  • filename.en.hi.srt
  • filename.en.cc.srt
  • filename.en.sdh.srt

Thanks!

These should all work now from beta 1.20.3 when using the new Plex Movie agent.

The hi flag is supported but not recommended as it’s also the language code for Hindi so to avoid any confusion it’s better to just use one of the other two.

Good news! Thanks!

I understand you can’t give me an ETA right now but what is the expected delay for a beta to become available to everyone? I don’t want to start naming subtitles file with those tags before it’s available to users.

I am also curious about this. I am now on version 1.24.5.5173 and this is still an issue.

The topic has later been discussed here, but there is no feedback from Plex. Are we getting somewhere?
