I find it annoying that I have to use the arrows to ender in my pin, especially with other people in the room while watching something. Please intergrate the numbers on the keypad to work when entering in pin. This should be private.
The Problem: Security on this feature is not great. Anyone watching can figure out the pin – inlcuding my 5 year old, no matter how clever a pin or how quickly I enter it.
The Solution: Make it more difficult to guess the pin entry. Needs to be a solution which doesn’t require me to tell everyone in the room to look away. These suggestions should be simple to implement:
Have an option/setting to disable the asterisk from being filled on each number entry.
Have an option/setting to disable sounds on each number entered.
Optionally, allow entry from the keypad on my remote. I use Plex on my Roku and have a universal remote so this is likely a fringe case.
Please consider this: If the entry of the pin can be guessed simply by watching the tv, there is little point in having the pin.
I am hoping for improvements here as well, for the same reason. When my 10 year old is in the room and we decide to watch something together that he’s not allowed to watch on his own, I would have to tell him to look away while I entered my PIN.
This is the primary reason I’ve moved all of my main living area TVs to PMP. I am able to type in my PIN from my remote control keypad. For “other” TVs where my family is not likely to be watching TV with me (Master Bedroom, my office, the garage, etc) I use boxes like Roku/AppleTV.
Ideally, I’d like the Plex apps on Roku/aTV/etc to send a message to the Plex app on your phone prompting you to either:
Enter your password directly on the phone
OR
Allow you to use TouchID (iOS) to authenticate yourself to the Roku/aTV/etc. (This is my nirvana solution)
I agree with the idea of improving the input of the PIN …

@BrianAz When you say PMP, are you referring to the Plex Media Player for Embedded Platforms? Do you have more information about that?
Back in the day I used jailbroken ATVs. Once Roku came out it seemed to be the perfect no hack solution. Since then I haven’t looked at other options much. I almost wonder if the best option would be to only play from a device to Chromecast. I could sacrifice my Nexus 7 to be the living room player. That way I’m not sharing the pin with everyone in the room.
The most simple solution for Plex would be to remove the asterisks (and sounds). Then it would be similar to how I enter my 4 digit debit card pin at the grocery store: I place my fingers on many keys and act as if I’m pressing them, but only press some of them. When entering the Plex pin, I would hover over many different numbers but only click “ok” on some of them. Make sense?

I did try this for a while and it worked well enough to likely be a solution for most, it meant always having my phone with me. There were a few times where I was on the couch and my phone was plugged in somewhere charging so I had to get up and fetch it before turning on our content. Certainly a minor issue really, but I’m picky I guess

Yes, Plex Media Player. It is not only for embedded though that is my preference. You could get it for Windows/OSX if you like.
I run embedded on an intel NUC 2820 and the other is an Atom D525 from Zotac (ID-41 I think).
Hi. I’d like to ask for a feature request which would allow me to log into a secure Plex profile via my PIN by pressing the numbers on my remote control instead of scrolling for each number one at a time.
For example: If my PIN/Passcode is 1234, instead of arrowing over to 1 and then 2 and then 3 and then 4 on my remote control which everyone can see as it’s happening, I’d like to be able to simply press 1234 on the remote (and then I’m in)! Very similar to “unlocking” a blocked channel on DirecTv
I have no idea if this is simple or not, but here goes:
My six year old daughter's account on Plex Home has all the movies we are okay with her watching by herself (iPad Mini). However, occasionally we will watch a movie with her that requires parental guidance. So I have to switch over to my account and enter the PIN - with the little CIA informant watching. The actual code may be dotted out, but she can tell when I pause on a number and hit okay...she's always watching...so would it be possible to have the Roku client accept the numbers off my Logitech Harmony One remote so that I can just type them in instead of arrowing around the screen? I understand Roku may not allow it, but please check...she's always watching...
Please implement same PIN entry UI as standard Xbox PIN entry using controller. As indicated by other users current implementation is not secure and reveals PIN to everybody in the room.
I have an Android STB (R-Box Pro) and Plex for Android is running on top of it.
The remote for the box has number keys on it.
However, pressing the number keys on the remote has no effect.
Instead, I need to go: up-left-down … you get it.
Is it possible to enter the pin with the pin with the hardware number buttons on the remote?
Is there some configuration for this?
I have two user accounts setup on Plex - one for me and my wife, and one for the kids
The kids account only has movies PG and under or that they can watch unattended and has no PIN
The adult account has movies that the kids can’t watch unattended or at all and is locked with a PIN
Problem:
to open the adult account the PIN entry screen shows a visible numeric keyboard on the TV, so anybody in the room can see the PIN including the kids. If they are there I have to ask them to look away…
not a good security solution as there’s no point having a PIN for ‘security’ if entry is visible
Solution:
adopt a similar PIN entry method to what the Amazon Fire does for pin entry where the PIN is hidden through the use of the cursors to enter - see below
C’mon Plex! Why is this still an issue??? This is not a ‘feature’, it’s a major bug! I keep reading Plex announcements about their brilliant, genius, amazing, superty-duperty, world-class developers, meanwhile my two options for keeping my content pin protected are to change my pin after EVERY time I sign in, or ask everyone in the room to please avert their eyes as I type in my CLEARLY VISIBLE PIN!!! Seriously, it’s ridiculous beyond all measure of decent programming to have a pin code entry seen by everyone in the room.
