# How Do I Disable Plex for Mac (ie, player) Automatic Updates?

Plex for Mac **1.51.1.3185**
**How do I _completely_ disable Plex for Mac (ie, _player_ application) automatic updates?**
I just wasted more than an hour wading through 13 years of users lamenting that automatic updates and or unsolicited update prompting are horrible. I see that there is a **_very poor_ UI** setting in PMS for Mac regarding updating ( [_Ask_] ), but can’t find even that rudimentary control in Plex for Mac.
In my experience, for many, many reasons, **it is _never_ beneficial that _any_ software from _any_ developer automatically update.**
I don’t even let Apple update any software automatically, and rarely enable any developer’s software to do automatic update checking.
It is astounding the number of times a software engineer has said to me, “I _don’t know what’s wrong—I only changed **one** thing._” Bugs happen. The greater the quantity of interdependent products, the higher the architecture complexity, bug probability soars. There’s no avoiding it. Plex does a lot. That’s good, but it also increases the need for **user _absolute_ control** over updating. If users ignore version compatibility release notes and obsolete software fails, that’s their problem and should also be their right.
**Any UI other than giving users control over if and when to update is _inherently disrespectful_ of users.**
Every time Plex for Mac _ **player** _ has updated automatically (ie, involuntarily), my time has been significantly wasted.

Not PMS. I’m asking about disabling Plex for Mac (ie, _ **player** _ application) automatic updates.
Thank you, I appreciate your taking time to respond. (I do know where, how, and carefully plan when to update PMS for Mac and, **when not _disrupted_ by automatic updating** , Plex for Mac (player application).
