How to give Plex permissions on Raspberry Pi 3?

Server Version#: 1.15.2.793
Player Version#: Not sure

I originally set up my Plex Media Server on my laptop and everything worked great once I got it all working. The only downside was to keep my laptop on all the time. Now I have a raspberry pi and I have installed the Plex Server onto it. When I have a file directly on my raspberry pi I am able to add it to a Plex library. However, when I plug in my external hard drive with movies/tv shows on it, the files are not noticed by the Plex libraries.

I am very new to Linux and thought I would just be able to plug in my Hard Drive and have it work, but that’s not the case. I am aware that it may be the permissions but I have no knowledge on this topic. Does anyone know how to fix this? I can provide more info if needed.

Thanks.

This should cover everything you need to know about setting up PMS on a RPi. If the USB drive is NTFS make sure you have the NTFS 3g package installed on the pi.
