How to install a custom scanner

Anyone know where to put the PY-file when I have plex installed on a synology nas?

I believe I’ve set up everything properly, however I do not see any way to select a scanner. Did this get moved somewhere else with the newer version of Plex?

I use Plex 1.5.5 but I don’t have a /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Scanners/ folder, what do I do ?

Hello everyone, I have a question regarding the installation of custom scanners in my new PLEX Windows Server 2012 R2 environment. My previous installation of PLEX was on a WS 2008 R2 build and it worked great. My dilemma is that I am unable to locate the specified folder ā€œscannersā€ or ā€œscanners.bundleā€. I do have the following path which I tried, but did not contain the folder I need, C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server.
The instructions and links to download were graciously provided by mjarends and posted here at: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/88982/rel-extended-personal-media-scanner/p1

The directions state:
ā€œCopy the Series folder from the plex-scanners folder created above to the Plex Media Server Scanners directory. To get to the Scanners directory right-click the Plex Media Server icon in the system tray and open the Plug-ins folder. In Windows Explorer go up a directory and then select the Scanners directoryā€.

Could someone please clarify, and point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Update to my last post.
Copy the Series folder from the plex-scanners folder created above to the Plex Media Server Scanners directory. To get to the Scanners directory right-click the Plex Media Server icon in the system tray and open theĀ Plug-insĀ folder. In Windows Explorer go up a directory and then select the Scanners directory.
If it’s not there
You’ll have to create a new folder under the Plex Media Server folder named ā€œScannersā€ then create sub-folders for each scanner type you want to use example: (Movies, Series, Music). Also check the
setting under Settings\Server\General called:Ā The path where local application data is stored it must be pointing at C:\Users"user name"\AppData\Local. This should work.

I’ve got the same question. You haven’t received an answer for almost two years? Wow…

nevermind I got it to work

nevermind I got it to work

Hey, I loaded a folder ending with .bundle but plex isn’t recognizing it.

I know that this has been covered ad nauseam, but I still can’t get this to work to save my life. Here is what I’ve done.

What works (sort of…):

If I place my custom scanner in the ā€œProgram Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Resources\Plug-ins\Scanners.bundle\Contents\Resources\Moviesā€, I can get PMS to recognize it after a restart. That said, whenever I update PMS, the scanner doesn’t persist and I have to re-add it to the folder.

How it should work (it doesn’t…):

I have placed the custom scanner into the ā€œUsers\[user]\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-insā€ using the following variations, to no avail:

ā€œ\Scanners\Moviesā€
ā€œ\Scanners\Contents\Resources\Moviesā€
ā€œ\Scanners.bundle\Moviesā€
ā€œ\Scanners.bundle\Contents\Resources\Moviesā€

Fun fact, if you copy the ā€œScanners.bundleā€, as is, from the installation location (Program Files(x86)) to the data location (AppData), the installation copy will be deleted upon relaunch of PMS.

At this point, I will continue to use the first method, but I feel if I could get the second method to work, I wouldn’t have the ā€œupdateā€ issue.

Please note that I am using PMS 1.16.2.1297 on Windows 10 Home.

This is the wrong location. It should be:
"Users[user]\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Scanners\Movies"

I refuse to believe that I am THAT dumb…and yet, here we are.

I’m going to go hang my head in shame now…

Oh, by the way, putting it in the right place works, in case y’all were wondering.

I don’t have a ā€œScannersā€ directory in that location. Do I just create it?

Yes, just create that folder. Don’t forget to include the additional ā€œMoviesā€ or ā€œSeriesā€ folder depending on what the scanner is for.
