I have installed plex media server and it keeps telling me its not there and to install again

There’s no reason it should be this difficult. I’ve watched tutorial under the sun and they all seem to reach some server setup page that I never saw.

HELP!

is Plex Media Server.exe running - see windows task manager

May be it is logged into different account

Look for logs in this folder
c:\users\xxxx\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\logs

The media server is running I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled and it never gives me the opportunity to actually set up the server itself. I don’t get to the get started page shown here https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200288896-Basic-Setup-Wizard

may be you had an old account it remembered (from the registry setting)

Look for the logs
and also check the registry
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server

If you want to start afresh, see

I created a new account specifically to rule this out as a cause and when I uninstalled and reinstalled it logs into the new account I just created. Can you tell me why upon install it doesn’t direct me to create a server?

As you can see it doesnt even recognize that PMS is installed and gives no option to edit add or change settings for the server. This is the new account I just created

Couple of things: try a different web browser, use the IP address of the computer instead of localhost, disable any browser add-ons that might be interfering, try accessing the Plex Server from a different computer web browser (using the IP address of the Plex server computer), make sure your network type (Windows network setting, not a Plex setting) is set to private and not public.

None of this worked. Thanks for the help but you both seem to be stuck on the server connection. My issue is that there is no server on my new acct because upon install I was never given the opportunity to create one. My setup wizard behaved differently than it should have. How can that be related to a server connection that hasn’t even been established yet?

As I said before what it might be

Creating a new plex account does not help - males it worse if the server is owned by another account

Uninstalling only removes binaries etc - it does not remove old settings / ownership info etc

I know that this post was 2 years ago, but I just want to confirm that this method still works as of October 17, 2019. Thank you very much for the help!

Edit: To get more into detail, I had the same problem. Installed Plex years ago (I forgot how long) and now I’m using a different account. Now that I am using a different one, I had the same problem as the original poster. Uninstalling PMS alone didn’t help, and apparently, it required deleting more stuff which I didn’t know.

Specifically talking about this link: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201941078-Uninstall-Plex-Media-Server?_ga=2.1886003.328408589.1571283514-841051624.1571283514

Following these instructions should be sufficient in this case:

I am having the same issue. I know I HAVE a plex media server, it steams to my television. But opening plex just tells me to get plex media server… which I already have. I cannot see my server or my libraries. It’s just always on a screen telling me to get plex.

What happens if you click on this link (on the copmputer where your plex server installed)? http://localhost:32400/web

I had the exact same issue on my Mac. Deleting all the folders mentioned above, the app, then restarting my computer, and re-installing the Plex Media Server app seemed to do the trick

I am having the same issue! Is there any solution or should I just hang it up?

I’m having the same issue. Windows 8.1, new account, first time install. Any resolution please?

I had the same issue and found the way to resolve it. The problem was related with the current Plex account. Make sure you are using the same account as was used during registration. By default Plex uses Google Chrome account and it may be differ from your Plex account.
If it doesn’t help try to open Plex in another browser using the same URL.

Had the same problem. I needed to activate my newly created Plex account via the activation mail one gets.

Having the same problem as above.
Im running the web app from mycloud PR4100.
Keeps asking me to install media server.
Makes no sense!!
How do I delete the whole thing and start afresh?
